that. Well, all that changed the moment the ‘masters’ stepped on the
stage. Daniel Taylor, a countertenor and Ellen McAteer, a professor of
voice at the University of Toronto and a two-time recipient of the
Richard Bradshaw Graduate Fellowship in Opera, showed us the meaning of
‘master’. Kai! And here comes a stunner. Daniel walked up to one of the
performers who had blown us away and told her to squat when she sang a
line. We raised our brows in question. Singing was now exercise? If only

Drake has
settled his lawsuit against Layla Lace (real name Laquana Morris), a
woman who allegedly falsely claimed that she was raped and impregnated
by the rapper.This was revealed by Drake’s attorney Larry Stein in a
statement made to TMZ. “The filing made by Drake against Layla Lace has
been resolved, with Layla avoiding going to trial by agreeing to a
stipulated judgment which prohibits her from repeating past statements
she made against Drake,” “Drake and his team are satisfied with this
outcome and while Drake appreciates the support he has received, he asks
that his fans and the media allow both parties to move on with their
lives.” In September, Drake filed his lawsuit against Morris for civil
extortion, fraud, emotional distress, abuse of process and defamation.
In the suit, the rapper admits to having consensual sex with Morris
while at a Manchester, England hotel in February 2017. According to the
suit, soon after, Morris claimed she booked a flight to see him, but the
suit alleged Morris became angry after she didn’t get a response and
she then canceled the flight and Drake ceased communications with
her. Then in April 2017, Morris took to Instagram and stated she was
pregnant, claiming that Drake was the father. Soon after, she appeared
on a radio show to discuss the claim. “I know who I sleep with
unprotected, period,” she told SiriusXM’s Shade 45. “So it’s 100 percent
sure. He knows it.” The suit also alleged that Morris also claimed that
Drake raped her and that even after Manchester police cleared him of
any allegations of sexual assault, Morris demanded money from the
rapper.According to documents filed on Friday and obtained by TMZ, the
rapper informed the court that he and Morris have resolved their legal
issues. As part of the settlement per TMZ, Morris has agreed to abstain
from republishing her Instagram post from April 2017 where she first
made the pregnancy claim and that she will not make “statements alleging
or insinuating [Drake] assaulted her,” got her pregnant and abandoned
her, or any other denigrating comments about Drake.
The
Nigerian Army says the $1 billion approved to fight insurgency and
other security challenges in the country, has not been released. Recall
that in 2017, the National Economic council (NEC) approved the request
of the Federal government to withdraw $1 billion from the excess crude
account for the fight against insurgency. Follwoing the recent attack in
Metele and other areas in Borno where over 100 solders were reportedly
killed, Nigerians asked why the military was still using obsolete
weapons despite the approval of the $1 billion .Responding to this, the
spokesperson of the Nigerian Army, Sani Usman, in an interview with NTA
last night December 2nd, said the money is still being processed.“People
should understand also that this is a democratic system in which
procurement and of course funding of defense related issues takes such a
long time. Take for instance the issue of the $1 billion approved
recently by Mr. President, up till now the process is ongoing. The
ministry of defense is still pursuing the matter to the point that when
it is done, the armed forces will definitely get more equipment, more
arms and ammunition.” Sani saidSpeaking further, Sani said the Army has
identified those that have spread fake news about the recent attacks on
military base in Metele and that its legal department is about to take
them to court.“So sad and unfortunate that our troops came under enemy
attack on the 18th of last month and we suffered causality as we
mentioned. Sadly, we lost 23 gallant officers and men and of course some
of them sustained injuries. In respect of the effort, we are trying as
much as possible to make sure that first and foremost we give timely and

from the rubble, while efforts are still ongoing to rescue others still

Aisha Kumaliya of the Borno State High Court sitting in Maiduguri has
convicted and sentenced one Babakura Mustapha to eight years
imprisonment for the offence of impersonation and obtaining money under
false pretence. The offence is contrary to and punishable under Section
132 Penal Code Law Cap 102, Laws of Borno State. Mustapha was arraigned
on June 6, 2018 and pleaded “not guilty”.In the course of the trial, the
prosecution led by Khalid Sanusi presented three witnesses and tendered
some documents, which were marked Exhibits A1-A4. Mustapha allegedly
posed as a staff of the EFCC with the name “Mr. Kola” and in the assumed
capacity presented himself to one Mamman Bukar as the operative
handling “a case” purportedly against Bukar.Count one of the charge
reads: “That you, BABAKURA MUSTAPHA sometime in June, 2017 at Maiduguri,
Borno State within the jurisdiction of this Honourable court, falsely
impersonate a staff of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission,
EFCC, and in such assumed character; you presented yourself to Mamman
Alh. Bukar, bearing a fictitious name Mr. Kola and pretended to be
handling his case in Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and
thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under section
132 Penal Code Law Cap 102,Laws of Borno State.”Delivering judgment,
Justice Kumaliya found him guilty and convicted him accordingly. During
allocotus, counsel for the convict pleaded with the court to temper
Justice with mercy as the convict was a first time offender and had a
family to cater for. Sanusi on his part urged the court to invoke
Section 365 of the CPC as to make the convict pay the sum of N80, 000 as
compensation to the victim (PW1) in the case. Justice Kumaliya
sentenced the convict on the first count of the charge to one year
imprisonment or an option of fine of N50,000. On count two, the convict
was sentenced to seven years imprisonment without an option of
fine. “The convict should pay the sum of N100, 000 for impersonation and
N800,000 to the complainant,” Justice Kumaliya ruled.
The
Federal Government has withdrawn the recent threat to activate the ‘no
work no pay policy’ against striking University teachers. This was
disclosed by the National President of the Academic Staff Union of
Universities, ASUU, Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi, in a chat with Vanguard.
Ogunyemi also said that the negotiation meeting between ASUU and the
Federal Government would continue on Monday, stressing that what the
union was doing was to rescue the education sector from imminent
collapse and to ensure that the children of the poor get access to
quality and affordable education. The ASUU boss also said that last
Friday’s meeting between the two parties did not yield much results. He
said: "well, we have confirmed that they have withdrawn that threat
(no work no pay). So it appears the threat is not there for now. But
even if the threat is there, we are prepared for that because for our
members, no sacrifice is too much to salvage Nigeria’s education.Shortly
before our action while the NLC (Nigeria Labour Congress) hullabaloo
was going on with federal government, they went to the Federal Executive
Council that they were activating that rule.”

Buhari has denied reports that he is a chauvinist and that his
administration has a low percentage of female representation. The
President reacted to the report when he spoke with the Nigerian
community in Poland yesterday, December 2nd.When asked about the number
of women in his administration, President Buhari said‘‘I have plans for
all Nigerians. I am not a male chauvinist. If I’m a chauvinist will I
give the Finance Ministry to women?’’ . President Buhari also used the
occasion to reiterate that his government will continue to maintain
focus and deliver on the three focal points of his campaign in 2015:
security, economy and the fight against corruption. ‘‘Those in the
North East will tell you that in spite of the recent setbacks, there is a
difference between the time we came and before. We are not doing badly
on security, economy and agriculture. We have virtually stopped the
importation of food especially rice and we are saving a lot of money. We
now have food security and that has come with fiscal security because a
lot of young educated people have not regretted going back to the farms
and earning a respectable living. I am afraid, this is not receiving
good publicity… but a lot of people in the rural areas are enjoying the
benefits of our interventions in agriculture,’’ he said.

Oil
marketers have issued a seven-day ultimatum, demanding that the Federal
Government settle the outstanding debts totalling N800 billion, failing
which depots would cease operation across the country. The marketers,
comprising Major Oil Marketers Association of Nigeria, Depot and
Petroleum Products Marketers Association and Independent Petroleum
Products Importers, said failure to meet the deadline would force its
members to disengage workers from depots. Confirming the seven-day
notice, Patrick Etim, Legal Adviser to IPPI told the News Agency of
Nigeria that banks have taken over investments and assets of oil
marketers over unpaid debts. According to Etim, marketers have no choice
that to ask their workers to stay at home over unpaid salary arrears
due to huge subsidy debts owed by the government. “The only way to
salvage the situation is for government to pay the oil marketers the
outstanding debts through cash option instead of promissory note being
proposed. As I speak, nothing has been done several months after
assurances received by government saying it would pay off the
outstanding debts.The oil marketers have requested that forex
differential and interest component of government’s indebtedness to
marketers be calculated up to December 2018 and be paid within next
seven days from the date of the letter sent to the government,’’ he
said.Etim said that several thousand jobs were on the line in the
industry, as oil marketers begin to cut-down their workforce due to
inability to pay salaries “At the inception of the current
administration, marketers engaged the government with the view to secure
approval for all outstanding subsidy-induced debts handed over to the
current administration,’’ he said. The counsel said that the current
administration paid part of the debts with a substantial portion of the
subsidy interest and foreign exchange differential still pending. The
Executive Secretary of DAPPMA, Mr Olufemi Adewole, also confirmed the
seven-day ultimatum notice. Adewole disclosed that the oil marketers
on November 28 served the ultimatum letter on the Debt Management
Office, Minister of Finance, Chairman, Senate Committee on Petroleum
Downstream, Department of State Services and Minister of State,
Petroleum Resources.

Secretary
of the Nigerian Bar Association, Ikole Ekiti Branch, Adeola Adebayo who
was kidnapped on Saturday, November, 17, 2018 at Erio, Ekiti State, has
been found dead with several bullet wounds. Adebayo was returning from
Osogbo, Osun State, with his wife and parents where they attended an
event when he was stopped and kidnapped. A ransom of N3million was
allegedly paid for his release, but his abductors still killed him after
receiving the money.
Last
weekend in Lagos, popular photographer Bolaji Alonge and his Belgian
fiancée, Sandra got married and they raised eyebrows with their
unusual cavalcade of 20 tricycles that conveyed them to the wedding

Four
brothers had their traditional wedding ceremonies in Umeh community,
Isoko Local Government Area of Delta State on Saturday.Two of the
brothers married two women each while the other two married one each,
bringing it to six new wives brought into the family same day.
