Boko Haram insurgents, Monday evening attacked a military base in Kukareta village, under Damaturu local government area, Yobe state.
Yobe State Commisioner of Police, Sunmonu Adeyemi Abdulmaliki confirmed the attacked, adding that details were still sketchy.
A resident of the village, Isah Bakari Yerima who fled into bush for his safety told DAILY POST via phone conversation that, “the insurgents came in and went straight to a military formation located in the village.
“There was a gun duel at the formation. We also saw a tick smoke from our hiding place.
“As I gathered, the insurgents also went to the village’s clinic and later on set the facility ablaze.
“The attack on the town has forced many locals into nearby bushes for safety. As I am talking to you, we are still in the nearby bushes, no one has dared to return to his house yet.”
Kukareta village, which is 25 kilometers away from Damaturu, the Yobe state capital has suffered series of attacks at the peak of Boko Haram insurgency.
As of the time of filing this report, there is no official statement from the military authority confirming the attack.

Senate
President, Bukola Saraki has urged President Buhari to direct the
release of political activist, Deji Adeyanju and ensure that his
fundamental human rights are not continuously abused by the Police,
because according to him, the case is more political than judicial.
Saraki in a statement signed by his Special Adviser (Media and
Publicity), Yusuph Olaniyonu noted that the Adeyanju case is presenting
the present administration in bad light as a government that is
intolerant of criticism and suppressing views of the opposition. He
stated that a situation where Adeyanju was arrested after leading a
protest in Abuja and sundry charges were filed against him while he was
re-arrested after being given bail by a court indicated a deliberate
attempt to get him out of circulation. The Senate President said the
reports on the Adeyanju case is giving the administration a bad name and
indicating that dictatorial tendencies are becoming rife in a
democratic country. “The way the matter has been handled and the last
decision of the Magistrate Court to remand the young man in prison till
after the conclusion of the 2019 Polls has presented our democracy in
bad light. We are now looking like a country that has receded to the
period of military rule. The President needs to intervene to find out
whether the current travail of Deji Adeyanju has anything to do with his
frequently expressed viewpoints against the Federal Government and why
his arrest after leading a protest has now ignited all the various
charges being filed against him and if it was true that the charges for
which he has been remanded in prison till February had actually being
adjudicated upon by the High Court. It should be noted that prior to
the coming to office of this government, those of us in opposition, the
APC, freely criticized the Goodluck Jonathan government and flayed their
actions and statements without any attempt by the administration to
stifle opposing views. This administration which benefitted from such
open market place of ideas, which is a key tenet of a democratic regime,
cannot offer anything less to our people. At this point, President
Buhari should not allow the excesses and over-zealousness of some
security agents to give his government a bad name and that is why I
think he should interfere and let the world know the truth about this
case. It is obvious that this case is purely political and not about any
judicial action. I also call on all human rights protection groups to
wade into this matter and ensure we do not watch helplessly as the
rights of a citizen is being trampled upon”, Saraki stated

State governor, Rochas Okorocha has said that his mind is fixed on
becoming the first elected civilian president of Igbo extraction in
2023. The governor made the remark when he hosted members of the Orlu
Zone Congress of Journalists (OZCOJ) in his office. He said that all the
campaigns of calumny against him was because his detractors have
realised that he is the most eligible and most detribalised Igbo man.
The governor described himself as the rallying point for all Ndigbo
and the only one who can bridge unity, understanding and togetherness in
order to realize Igbo presidency in 2023. Speaking earlier, the
Coordinator of OZCOJ, Ambassador Ikenna Onuoha, said that Orlu people
were happy that one of their sons represented them very well as governor

Friday, December 21, 2018, ordered the interim forfeiture of assets and
properties traced to one Ngozi Olejeme, a former chairman of Nigeria
Social Insurance Trust Fund, NSITF and also the Deputy Chairman, Finance
Committee of the Goodluck Jonathan Campaign Organisation in the 2015
election.A statement from the EFCC says Justice Ojukwu granted the
application and ruled that “an order is hereby made attaching/forfeiting
in the interim, all assets and properties set out in the schedule
attached to this application, to the Federal Government of Nigeria,
pending the hearing and determination of the trial in Charge No.
CR/365/17 pending at”.The order was made, sequel to an Ex-parte
Originating Summons, filed by the Economic and Financial Crimes
Commission, EFCC, through its counsel, Elizabeth Alabi, on December 12,
2018, praying the court for the following orders:“An order of interim

US judge on Monday ordered North Korea to pay a fine of $501 million
over the death of American Otto Warmbier, ruling that the University
student likely suffered torture. The parents of Warmbier sued North
Korea in a US court after the 22-year-old was flown back to the United
States last year in a coma, unrecognizable to his family and dying
within days of his return. Beryl Howell, the chief judge of the US
District Court for the District of Columbia, awarded $501,134,683.80 to
the family, most of it in punitive damages.“An American family, the
Warmbiers, experienced North Korea’s brutality first-hand when North
Korea seized their son to use as a pawn in that totalitarian state’s
global shenanigans and face-off with the United States.North Korea is
liable for the torture, hostage-taking, and extrajudicial killing of
Otto Warmbier, and the injuries to his mother and father, Fred and Cindy
Warmbier,” she wrote. She said that North Korea did not submit any
response to the lawsuit, which the family filed under the Foreign
Sovereign Immunities Act, which allows US-based plaintiffs to sue
governments for offences not considered to be covered by diplomatic
immunity. North Korea is highly unlikely to pay the amount voluntarily
and, as one of the world’s most isolated countries, it is believed to
have few assets in the United States that could be seized. But the
verdict comes as President Donald Trump negotiates a deal on North
Korea’s nuclear arsenal, raising the possibility of future US payouts,
which could become entangled by the court-ordered damages. Late Otto
Warmbier, a student at the University of Virginia, traveled to North
Korea on a tour but did not return home, with the regime pulling him
away at the Pyongyang airport and charging him with crimes against the
state for allegedly taking down a poster in support of leader Kim Jong
Un. The lawsuit said the family was continually advised by the State
Department to stay quiet, believing North Korea would make a demand in
return for Warmbier’s safe release.
A
Mexican governor and her senator husband died in a helicopter crash in
the centre of the country on Monday. Martha Erika Alonso, a senior
opposition figure and new governor of the central state of Puebla, died
with Rafael Moreno, a senator and the former governor of the same state,
when their helicopter came down not far from the state capital of
Puebla city. “I said hello to (Moreno) in the Senate just a few days
ago. Those of us who had the opportunity to know them are sad and
troubled,” Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard said on Twitter, confirming
the deaths of the couple. 
President
Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador said on Twitter that his government would
investigate the accident. It was unclear if the pilot died or what had
caused the crash. Alonso, from the centre-right National Action Party
(PAN), took office earlier this month after a local election that was
hotly contested with Lopez Obrador’s leftist National Regeneration
Movement, or MORENA. An electoral tribunal had to validate the results
months after the vote amid accusations of fraud. Moreno was governor
of Puebla between 2011 and 2017 and headed the PAN in the Senate. A
number of Mexican politicians have died in aircraft accidents in the
past few years, including federal interior ministers in 2008 and 2011.
The latter two were also members of the PAN.

Stock Exchange informing them of his decision to sell his 75% direct and
indirect shareholdings in Forte Oil. In the letter signed by Akinleye
Olagbende, the general counsel of Forte Oil, Otedola said he was
divesting from the company in order to “explore and maximise business
opportunities in refining and petrochemicals”. “Forte Oil Plc hereby
notifies the Nigerian Stock Exchange, Securities and Exchange
Commission, Shareholders and the investing community that its Majority
Shareholder, Mr. Femi Otedola, CON has reached an agreement with the
Prudent Energy team, investing through Ignite Investments and
Commodities Limited, to divest of his full 75% direct and indirect
shareholding in the Company’s downstream business,” the statement
said.Otedola has been the majority shareholder in the company since
2007, when the Incorporated Trustees of NNPC’s Pension Fund divested its
stake to the Otedola-owned Zenon Petroleum & Gas Limited. The
sale of his shareholdings is expected to be completed in the first
