Refund loot: PDP replies presidency, says APC has spirit of vengeance

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has accused the Presidency and the All Progressives Congress (APC) of having the spirit of bitterness and vengeance, adding that such is responsible for the economic dryness, divisiveness and hostility in the nation under their watch.

This is just as the party has advised the Presidency to direct its demand for refund of stolen funds to President Muhammadu Buhari and the APC, as those responsible for looting are now in the APC where they enjoy the protection of the President.

PDP National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan, in a statement on Friday, said the APC and the Presidency have been trying to transfer their vile spirit of vengeance to Nigerians, as manifested in their refusal to let go, even after the citizens have accepted PDP’s apology, which were made in the overall interest of national healing, renewal and reconciliation.

The Presidency and the APC do not have the spirit of forgiveness. They believe that they must take revenge on everything. This is why they are going about hounding everybody perceived to hold opinions that are contrary to their interest.

This explains why they have continued to keep people like the former National Security Adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki (rtd) in detention, even after he has been granted bail by the courts.

That is why they are after figures like Senate President Bukola Saraki, Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu as well as politicians perceived to be interested in the 2019 Presidential elections.

The fact however is that Nigerians have seen through their vile tendencies and have abandoned them in their vengeance seeking ventures.

Moreover, it is incongruous and shameful that the Presidency and APC are still engaging in their hypocritical media trial of asking the PDP to refund alleged looted funds, when the world is aware that those who looted the economy are all in the APC where they have become the poster faces of President Buhari and his discredited party.

While we restate our challenge to the Presidency to name any individual in the repositioned PDP indicted for looting public fund, we make bold to state that in President Buhari’s cabinet are former APC governors indicted by their states for looting funds belonging to the people, bulk of which were used to finance the President’s 2015 campaign.

We also have the list of prominent individuals, who were indicted of looting but have since crossed over to the APC where they are now provided cover by the Buhari administration.

We assert boldly that the PDP has never been convicted or indicted for corruption and that there is no individual in the rebranded PDP who is indicted of looting public funds.

We challenged the APC and the Presidency to make similar claim or keep quiet and hide their faces in shame.

If not, we will no longer hesitate to go public with the list of indicted individuals in their fold who looted their state resources and deployed such funds to Buhari 2015 Campaign.

The Oyo State Police Command have recovered a total of 178 guns and 840 rounds of ammunition in circulation in the state.

Briefing newsmen at the Command Headquarters, Eleyele, Ibadan on Thursday, the Commissioner of Police, CP Abiodun Odude said pump-action guns, imported pistols, single-barrelled guns, AK-47 guns and locally-made single-barrelled guns were among the recovered firearms. "Among the recovered arms are 27 pump- action guns, 65 locally- made single-barrelled guns , 34 cut-to - size guns, 21 imported pistols , six AK-47 rifles, two Sterling sub -machine guns , three Berretta rifles , 504 cartridges and other ammunition. In all, we have recovered 178 guns and 840 rounds of ammunition." said Odude

The police boss said the command would soon begin house - to- house search for prohibited firearms.

Looters: PDP dismisses FG's list, challenges APC to name convicted members of PDP

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has dismissed the list of alleged "looters" published by the Federal Government as hollow and laughable.

The party said the list is an extension of federal government media trial and challenged it to come up names of its members against whom the federal government had secured convictions.

The list put forward by the Federal Government as purported looters amounts to a cheap blackmail as none of those listed have been indicted or convicted by any court of competent jurisdiction or any panel of enquiry in our country.

PDP National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan, in a statement on Friday, said the list issued by the Minister of Information, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, only goes to show that the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Presidency have no prove of corruption against the PDP.

The party said in its frenzy and desperation, the federal government even included names of individuals who are not standing trial or under investigation for any act of corruption, as well as those who are not even PDP members.

The Buhari-led Federal Government has manifested its frenzy by going after matters that are in court and in which none of the persons have been convicted, thus betraying their wickedness and desperation to mislead the public, the court and divert attention from the heavy looting involving their members.

We are not in doubt that the individuals he has mentioned will take their legitimate stride and pursue appropriate action in the court.

However, attacks on individuals, who are members of our party, does not in anyway detract from the fact that the PDP, as a political platform, is not a party of corruption.

It is unfortunate that the APC and its government under whose watch horrendous sleazes are happening on daily basis and a government that has failed to fulfill the littlest of its campaign promises, can spend a wholesome three years searching for flimsy allegations to discredit our party and its members.

This is a government that is yet to account for $26 billion (N9 trillion) stolen through corrupt oil contracts in the NNPC, N1.1 trillion worth of crude diverted to service APC interests, N18 billion Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) intervention fund stolen by APC officials, including their former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Babachir Lawal, the N10 billion National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) for which members of the Buhari cabal were indicted as well as the Mainagate, where the APC government recalled and reinstated an individual indicted for scam running into billions of naira.

This is in addition to cover provided for serving ministers indicted for corrupt enrichment, among whom is a prominent former APC governor from the southsouth, who was indicted by his state for stealing billions of naira to fund President Buhari’s campaign in 2015.

We emphatically say that the PDP is on a rebound and such flimsy allegations by the APC and its horde of looters, who stole humongous wealth from their respective states of the federation to sponsor an incompetent candidate in 2015, cannot stop us from challenging the Federal Government to fulfill its campaign promises.

Since, the APC has decided to draw this attack, we will no longer hold back but appropriately commence a serialization of all looters hiding in APC and the Presidency.

President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday met with British supermodel, Naomi Campbell, as he toured the Eko Atlantic City on Friday.

The supermodel was in Lagos for the Arise Fashion Week 2018, and many Nigerians were surprised to see her with the President during his tour of the new city under construction.

She tweeted, “Was a pleasure to be invited by his Excellency, the President of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari, to the private launch of Eko Atlantic @NGRPresident @MBuhari.”The British model had earlier tweeted that she was in Nigeria on the request of the Nigerian government but deleted the post shortly after.

After deleting the post, she replaced it with, “Was a pleasure to meet His Excellency the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari, to the launch of Eko Atlantic. Here for Arise Fashion Week.”

However, before the first post was deleted, Nigerians had already seen it and bombarded the model with questions, with some asking why she deleted her initial post.

A Twitter user simply identified as, Olawoyin4u, posted a screenshot of her first post and asked why the supermodel deleted the tweet. He posted on his twitter handle, “Nigerians want to know why you deleted the post below?”

The Presidency also denied reports that President Buhari had invited the British actor, singer and model for the tour of the Eko Atlantic City. It claimed that the President met Campbell at Eko Atlantic City and that she requested to take some pictures with Buhari.

A tweet by the Personal Assistant to the President on New Media, Bashir Ahmad, said, “For the sake of clarity, President MBuhari didn’t invite Ms. Naomi Campbell to any event during his 2-day visit to Lagos State.”

Dino Melaye: Police reportedly re-arrest 5 out of the 6 escapee suspects

The Nigeria Police Force has reportedly re-arrested five out of the six suspected criminals who escaped from Police custody in Lokoja, Kogi State on Wednesday March 28th.

Recall that the six suspected criminals, two of whom the police alleged were assassins working for embattled Senator Dino Melaye, escaped from police custody last week.

SaharaReporters reports that five of the criminals have now been re-arrested. They were apprehended yesterday March 30th.

'I have lost confidence in army to protect my people' – Emir of Anka, Zamfara

Alhaji Attahiru Ahmad, the Emir of Anka in Zamfara State says he has lost confidence in security personnel to protect his people and he is therefore seeking the assistance of the United Nations and the African Union.

The first class traditional ruler made this known in his palace when Governor Abdulazeez Yari of the state paid a condolence visit to him on Friday. The emir expressed shock that in less than a week after President Buhari visited the state and charged security agents to brace up and end all forms of insecurity, insurgents still carried out mass killings.

He said he had lost confidence in the ability and commitment of the security personnel because they had failed in the discharge of their obligations to provide security to the lives and property of the law abiding residents in his domain on different occasions.

According to him, the only hope for the state is to seek the assistance of UN or African Union (AU) in fighting the insurgency in the state. He alleged that corruption among the security agencies and judiciary was the factor fuelling the security problems in the state, saying he will make available list of all identified corrupt security personnel and judges to the state as soon as it would be possible.

He stressed the need to secure permanent base for security agencies to protect the areas under constant attacks by the gunmen. Earlier, Yari expressed regret over the incessant attacks, urging the security agencies to intensify their efforts at restoring normalcy in the affected areas. He therefore urged the security agents to apprehend all persons in possession of weapons henceforth to reduce the attacks.

More than 30 persons were on Thursday buried in Bawan Daji village of Anka Local Government Area of Zamfara, following gunmen attack on the village. The bandits attacked the area after some members of the community held a meeting to discuss measures to be taken against the bandits during the 2018 farming season. The bandits had earlier threatened that there would be no farming activities in the area in this year’s rainy season.

Use your influence wisely - Presidency appeals to prominent Nigerians

The Presidency has appealed to prominent Nigerians, who have national influence, to use their influence wisely and not continue to engage in public declarations that are likely to inflame emotional passions and threaten National Security.

According to a statement by Garba Shehu, the Presidency is very worried that criminal gangs will feel justified in defying legal governing and democratic institutions, and authority of legitimately elected democratic government if unrestrained pronouncements are made.

Silence can be dignified, but sometimes it can be misinterpreted and exploited. It is both shocking and scary to hear the recent comments by a senior citizen calling for Nigerians to defend themselves.

The Presidency commends the Nigerian military’s efforts to maintain peace and stability, despite being pulled in various directions by elements determined to destabilize the country and government for their selfish reasons. What country would survive if its citizens rise against the country’s organized, trained and equipped military?

We advise former leaders to take advantage of the various fora where people with a history of national security can offer advice to the government without resorting to the exploitation of emotional sentiments.

The civil war motto: “TO KEEP NIGERIA ONE IS A TASK THAT MUST BE DONE” rings very timely at this time in our nation’s history. We must be careful to avoid the mess that destroyed other African countries like Somalia.

My attention has been drawn to the recent release of names of 'looters' by the APC led Federal Government through the Minister of information, Lai Mohammed.

By this publication, the Federal Government has breached our constitution by seeking to burden me with two criminal trials on the same charge, one before Justice Okon Abang and the other before the media.

In response to the scandalous publication, I wish to state as follows :

1) Since my arrest on the 5th day of January 2016 and subsequent arraignment, I have refrained from publicly discussing my persecution and travails by the government because as a lawyer, trained in the finest traditions of the Bar, I know that it is wrong to discuss a matter that is subjudice. However the present action of the government leaves me no option than to defend my name and integrity. I have therefore decided to avail the public of the true state of the contrived case against me.

2) The charge against me is that I received the sum of N400 million from the Office of the National Security Adviser to carry out duties assigned to me as the then National Publicity Secretary of the PDP by then President and Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. The major crux of the prosecution argument is that I ought to have known that the money was a part of an alleged and yet to be proven unlawful activity of Col Sambo Dasuki(rtd), former NSA to President Jonathan.

3) The charge was brought regardless of the fact that neither President Jonthan who gave me the assignment and directed the release of the funds nor Col Dasuki(rtd), who effected the release of the funds have ever been interrogated nor even interviewed in this regard. As a matter of fact, officers of the office of the National Security Adviser have testified in court that the payment made to me followed all due process usually observed in the establishment.

4) It is of interest to note that the prosecution has not alleged any mens rea or collusion on my part other than the suggestion that I 'ought to have known' of an alleged unlawful activity. Also the alleged illegality of the funds has neither been established in law nor in fact.

5) I have NEVER held a government office and/or position and could not therefore have had any access to government funds.

6) In view of the weakness of the case against me, the APC led Federal Government resorted to all kinds of dirty tactics to dehumanise and intimidate me. They have done everything humanly possible to ensure complete persecution starting from bringing me to court in handcuffs (and parading the capture of Nigeria's most wanted) to media trials and constant interference with my case.

7) I have been reliably informed that the Federal Government has ordered a conviction at all cost to ensure that the PDP is tainted before the elections. The government's determination to achieve this objective is clearly highlighted by the refusal to allow me attend to my deteriorating health notwithstanding several expert medical opinion on the matter.

8) By going to the media to name me a looter (without cross-checking the definition and dictionary meaning of the word), the Federal Government has not only given a body language but has issued a direct intimidation and threat to the judiciary to get a compulsory conviction.

9) It is now clear that the APC led government that thrives in impunity and intimidation of other arms of government will not allow justice to be done in my matter. It is incontrovertible that our country has descended into the worst form of draconian rule where the executive arm directly interferes and seeks to control and determine matters within the purview of the legislature and the judiciary.

10) In view of this unprecedented executive rascality and lawlessness, I have asked my lawyers to review the implications of this latest attack by the government and take appropriate steps for redress

11) In all, my faith is firm in God that this tyranny will not last forever and that no mortal is omnipotent in my matter.
