The Presidential Candidate of the Social Democratic Party, (SDP), Donald Duke, says he will appeal the judgement, removing him as the party’s presidential flag bearer. The Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, on Friday declared Jerry Gana, a former Nigerian Minister of Information, as the presidential candidate of the SDP. Duke had been declared as the presidential candidate of the party after the primary election held in October 2018 in which Gana was also an aspirant. However, Gana had instituted a case against the result in court, basing his case on the zoning and rotation formula of the party. Giving his ruling, Justice Hussein Baba-Yusuf said:“In this instance, the party’s Chairman, Chief Olu Falae, is from the South and Duke is from the South too; the law is clear; there is nothing to write in-between. The law has crystallised that political parties should abide by the regulations which they have made by themselves.The claimant laid sufficient evidence to have the judgment in his favour; it is a clear violation of the party’s constitution; the court cannot wave right over illegality. Duke’s votes were declared null and void and the judge declared that Gana was the winner of the election.The SDP was also ordered to forward Gana’s name to the Independent National Electoral Commission, (INEC) as its candidate for the 2019 general election". Donald Duke told journalists in Lagos that: “while we await a copy of the judgement for a detailed review, it is imperative we reiterate our constitutionally backed belief. Every Nigerian who meets the legal requirement is entitled to contest for the office of the President. Any law that seeks to curtail or subvert that right under any guise is unconstitutional, null and void and of no effect. “The delegates of our great party at its convention in October, overwhelmingly elected me as their presidential Flag-bearerr. Any attempt to subvert their wishes through the instrumentality of the courts will be challenged.As a Law abiding citizen, I urge my supporters and members to remain calm as we are confident that the decision of the Court will be upturned on appeal. We are optimistic that the Appellate Court will reach a decision that reinforces the essential tenets of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.” He said his optimism was in line with the wishes of members of the Social Democratic Party
A six-week-old child simply called baby Benedicte has survived deadly Ebola outbreak in Congo. The six-week-old infant has been dubbed “a miracle’’ by Congo’s Ministry of Health for surviving Ebola which she caught as a newborn. “The little girl is called Benedicte and she was born on Oct. 31, so she’s about one and a half months old,’’ Jessica Ilunga, a spokesperson for the ministry said on Friday. Sadly, Benedicte’s mother died during childbirth while also infected with Ebola which has so far killed more than 300 people in eastern Congo. Benedicte received 24-hour care throughout her hospitalisation and is the youngest person to recover from the virus in this outbreak, the ministry said. She is now home with her father and aunt
Veteran Nollywood actor, Elder Ifeanyi Ikenga Gbulie is dead. Elder Danda, as he’s famously called, passed away two days back after battling stroke for years. Ifeanyi died in Enugu. Confirming news of his demise, member of the Directors Guild of Nigeria, DGN, Chima Okoroji, said the late actor would be greatly missed. “This is too heavy for me; I love this man with a passion his humility is out of this world. I will miss you so much,” he said. The late actor is known for his elderly roles in films, such as End of Dreams and Under Fire.
Grammy award-winning singer Nancy Wilson whose hits ranged from R&B to jazz and funk, has died at her California home at age 81 after a long illness. Wilson, who came to fame as a torch singer in the 1960s, called herself a “song-stylist” and resisted labeling as a jazz singer for most of her career, since she could cross many genres. “She was one of those rare vocalists who could do it all. Jazz, blues, pop and even funk. She did it all” longtime publicist Devra Hall Levy told Reuters. Wilson’s “How Glad I Am” earned her a Grammy in 1965 for best R&aB performance. She won more Grammys in 2005 and 2007 for jazz, along with a 2004 lifetime achievement award, the Jazz Masters Fellowship, from the National Endowment for the Arts. “Nancy gave her all for her fans,” Levy said. A music critic once called Wilson the heir apparent to iconic jazz singer Ella Fitzgerald, and she was influenced by Nat King Cole and other legendary vocalists. Her first album “Like in Love” came out in 1959 to commercial success and she frequently topped the Billboard pop charts in the 1960s. Jazz historian and author Ted Gioia told Reuters that the jazz world had lost a music giant whose supple talents brought her songs emotive heights. “She was one of those rare vocalists who could sing any style, cross any genre but still put her unique imprint on the music. Her albums were full of gems,” Gioia said.
A Kenyan woman whose husband was killed last week caused a stir after she attempted to stop his burial on Wednesday. Mary Wangari, wife of Edward Mwangi, jumped into the grave as the pastor gave his sermon. She demanded that the body be taken back to the morgue until Mwangi’s killer was found. Mwangi’s cousin Charles Mucheru also jumped into the grave and sat next to Mary. They demanded to be left alone until their grievances were addressed.
33-year-old Mwangi was killed on the night of December 3 and his body recovered in a farm near his home in Bahati.Residents say Mwangi and two others stormed the suspect’s home after learning that his lover was in the man’s house.“The three went to the suspect’s house at night, one of them armed with a knife. They attacked him but he overpowered them and snatched the weapon. Two of them fled to safety,” said a resident who sought anonymity.The suspect stabbed Mwangi in the chest several times.“According to a postmortem examination report, Mwangi died after being stabbed through the heart,” said Mucheru.Mwangi struggled to make his way home, but unfortunately collapsed and died in a farm next to the suspect’s house."The suspect explained the circumstances under which he killed my cousin and surrendered the bloodied weapon to the police. Mwangi’s body was taken to Nakuru County mortuary,” he said.Wangari claimed the suspect had since been set free.“The suspect was…taken back to his home in a police vehicle. They denied me an OB (Occurrence Book) number and said they would follow up the matter. Even if the suspect killed my husband in self-defence the matter should be decided in court,” she said.Wangari accused the police of not investigating the matter.
Mwangi’s parents and brothers, who live in Kirinyaga, planned the burial despite protests from Wangari and relatives from Nakuru.“Those from Kirinyaga don’t know the pain we are going through. We want justice for (Edward). Burying him while his killer is walking free is denying his immediate family justice,” said Mucheru.Wangari added: “All I want is justice for my husband. He will not be buried before I see the suspect in the docks. I want a fair hearing of the matter,” added the widow.Dundori MCA Michael Chege’s efforts to calm Mucheru and Wangari down bore no fruit. “We equally want justice and truth over the matter. However, let us bury him with respect for his spirit to go in peace. God will serve justice if the Government system will fail,” said Mr Chege.
Nominated MCA Rose Karugi, Mwangi’s neighbour, called on the police to investigate the matter to its logical conclusion.“Even if he was on the wrong the law should apply. We want justice for (Edward). We have lost him in a way that is painful. The suspect should be taken to court to defend himself,” she said.The burial ceremony was stopped for over two hours as residents and kin pleaded with the two to let the burial proceed.They ignored everyone, even Mwangi’s father Daniel Mwea.“Mary, listen to me. This is my son. I’m also in pain and want justice for my son. Allow us to bury him and follow up the matter later,” he pleaded.
At 2.20pm, Mr Mwea lost his cool and ordered his other relatives to forcibly get Wangari and Mucheru out of the grave.“My son will be buried. Today! Get them out and lower the casket,” he ordered. Relatives obliged.After order was restored Mwangi was hurriedly buried with the casket 'facing the wrong direction'.

The mother of three, who gave birth to one of the monarch's three sets of twins in February 2018, posted photos from her convocation ceremony on Instagram. While I was in Enugu I discovered that my friend already had an armed robbery gang and they were into kidnapping. I joined them.” Sani said at first they started robbing travellers on the Enugu Port Harcourt expressway.
Normally we block the expressway with heavy logs in the dead of the night, forcing vehicles to stop. We would rob all the occupants of their cash and valuables. We take the rich ones among them hostage in a forest in Enugu.
They will be released only when their relatives pay ransom. I can’t count the numbers of robberies I have taken part in, but the one that got me into trouble was the kidnapping of my former boss, who sells cows in Abuja.”

of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, has said members of the
opposition party, PDP, is disappointed that President Buhari did not die
after his illness that kept in the UK for months last year

opposition members of peddling the rumor that President Buhari was

A
married woman who is finding it difficult to adjust to life with her
"difficult" husband sent a message to a magazine asking for advice and
the advice she got is trending online.The woman named Leila, from
Kampala, Uganda, said her husband does not like to have his bath and he
leaves the toilet without flushing it after use. She added that he also
walks into the house with dirty shoes. She mentioned that her husband
was raised in a "well-to-do home where social graces were upheld" so she
doesn't understand why his behaviour doesn't match his upbringing.In
reply, she was told to bath her husband in the morning and evenings and
shower him with sweet words while at it. She was also asked to "handle
him like an adolescent baby", among other words of advice that can be

A
newborn baby boy has died one month after he was mauled by his parents'
dogs.Reuben McNulty was just one month old when he was attacked in the
early hours of Sunday, November 18 at the family's home in the village
of Yaxley, near Peterborough in Cambridgeshire, England. 
His parents' Staffordshire
Bull Terriers named Fizzy and Dotty both attacked him. He died in the
hospital om Thursday, almost 4 weeks after the dog attack. 
The
boy's parents Dan McNulty, 31, and Amy Litchfield, 28, were arrested on
suspicion of child neglect and released on bail. Detectives say the
baby's death is not being treated as suspicious. 
The dogs have since been put down.
