Buhari is delivering chains to Nigerians not promises, says Ben Bruce

Senator Ben Murray Bruce, from Bayelsa East has reacted to the recent remark by President Buhari where he described Nigerian youths as lazy.
Buhari, while speaking at the Commonwealth Business Forum in London last week, had said most Nigerian youths want everything free without doing anything.
Faulting the remark, Bruce said Buhari forgot how those he called lazy youths voted for him during the last election.
In a statement, the business mogul said the president had delivered chains rather than his campaign promises.
He said, “Instead of finding out why young Nigerian professionals are migrating in droves to countries like Canada, President Buhari calls them lazy.
“The ironic thing is that many of them queued up for hours under hot Savannah sun to vote in a man who promised change but delivered chains!
“There is no way President Buhari, father of the Nigerian nation in every sense of the word, who equally has biological children of his own in the youths age bracket, pass a vote of no confidence on all youths. It can only exist in the imagination of those who play what the President has described as “irresponsible politics” with everything.
“President Buhari has always applauded and celebrated Nigerian youths who excel in different areas of endeavour, from sports, to academia, and other realms. And he will continue to do so, because he values the youths, and knows that they are the fulcrum on which the future of the country rests.
“Indeed, every country has its share of idle population, and it is the bounden duty of government at all levels, to create an enabling environment for them to actualize their potentials.
“It is futile for mischief makers to lie in wait, and take a minor part of the words of the President, and turn it into negative commentary, peradventure they could diminish the profile of the President.
“Nigerians across all walks of life know who is serving them faithfully and truly, and they will always reciprocate such fidelity as occasions demand.”

Update: Dino Melaye allegedly jumped out of police vehicle conveying him to Kogi state and ran into the bush
According to The Sun, embattled senator Dino Melaye this afternoon jumped off the vehicle that was conveying him to Kogi state and ran into the thick bush nearby. He was arrested by SARS officers in Abuja this morning and was being transported to Kogi state where he is expected to respond to allegations of sponsoring two assassins.
The assassins were arrested in February and they confessed to have been funded by Melaye.
Melaye who represents Kogi West, is very critical of the Buhari led government as well as very critical of his state governor, Yahaya Bello. He has denied the allegations leveled against him by the suspected assassins, saying they are politically motivated and that he was being framed.
After weeks of reportedly not honoring police invitations, he was prevented from traveling out of Nigeria to Morocco for an official assignment yesterday April 23rd. He was ambushed all through the night. This morning, he surrended to SARS officers in Abuja.
He was being taken to Kogi state when he jumped off the vehicle and fled into the bush.

This latest assault on innocent persons is particularly despicable - President Buhari reacts to latest Benue killings
President Buhari has described as vile and satanic the killing of worshippers and two priests at a Catholic church in Ukpor-Mbalom community in Gwer East Local Government Area of Benue State.
“I extend my sincere condolences to the government and people of Benue State, the Mbalom community, and especially the Bishop, priests and members of the St Ignatius' Catholic Church, whose premises was the unfortunate venue of the heinous killings by gunmen.
"This latest assault on innocent persons is particularly despicable. Violating a place of worship, killing priests and worshippers is not only vile, evil and satanic, it is clearly calculated to stoke up religious conflict and plunge our communities into endless bloodletting," the President said.

Stressing that the country will not bow to the machinations of evildoers, President Buhari vowed that the assailants would be hunted down and made to pay for the sacrilege committed.

Facebook deletes 1.9m terror related posts in 3-months

Facebook deletes 1.9m terror related posts in 3-monthsSocial network giant, Facebook found and removed 1.9 million social-media posts by the Islamic State and al Qaeda terrorists during the first three months of 2018, using new anti-terror algorithms.
“In Q1 (first quarter) we took action on 1.9 million pieces of ISIS [Islamic State terror group, outlawed in Russia] and al-Qaeda content, about twice as much from the previous quarter. Taking action means that we removed the vast majority of this content, and added a warning to a small portion that was shared for informational or counter speech purposes” Facebook said.
Detection technology has been critical to progress detecting terrorist posts, with the Facebook counterterrorism team growing from 150 last June to 200 at present, with plans to continue expanding the team, the release explained.
“In Q1 2018, 99 percent of the ISIS and al-Qaeda content we took action on was not user reported. We found this material due to advances in our technology, but this also includes detection by our internal reviewers” it added.
The median time for newly uploaded terrorist content to be flagged was less than one minute, Facebook noted. However, because content receives less attention the longer it remains on line, the Facebook team also went back and reviewed older posts, accounting for 600,000 removals in the January-March quarter.

NYSC introduces Sharia Law in FCT camp, Corps members, marketers set for showdown

The authorities of the National Youth Service Scheme (NYSC) have introduced Sharia code at its Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Orientation Camp in Kubwa. Under the new dispensation, the sale of alcoholic drinks in the camp is prohibited, while female and male corps members are also forbidden from socialising.
The measures were introduced by the newly-appointed FCT Coordinator, Mallam Bello Balama, which an official said were aimed at sanitising the camp. The official however, did not state what had gone wrong.
It was learnt that Balama introduced Shari practice in the camp because he said that it is sinful for him as Muslim to head a camp where alcohol is sold. The AUTHORITY gathered that Balama warned the camp officials and corps members that anyone who is seen with any form of alcohol would be decamped or sacked.
Sources said that the Camp Coordinator boasts that he had succeeded in imposing the Sharia system at the Zamfara and Kaduna NYSC camps, where he presided over before his new assignment, adding that he was on a divine mission to the FCT.
Balama allegedly warned the corps members and staff members against any form of socialisation between male and female. Under the no socialisationagenda, Ballama allegedly implements it with the slogan: “No man, No Woman”.
Critics of his approach claimed that he is breaching the operational guidelines of the NYSC as well as abandoning the vision of the founding fathers to foster unity, tolerance and integration among Nigerian youths, and instead pursuing ethnic and religious motives.
They said that this was the first time in the history of the NYSC that a coordinator was thwarting the policy guidelines of the scheme in the FCT on the ground of religion despite all the Muslims that had in the past presided as coordinators.
When The AUTHORITY visited the camp, it was discovered that some of the corps’ members who had no access alcoholic drink resorted to taking hard drugs, which they smuggled into the place.
The founding fathers of the NYSC adopted the camp markets (otherwise called Mammy Markets) where the corps members and officials who include the soldiers, Man O’ War, Civil Defence, police and others relax after the strenuous activities of the day, including the purchase of food and other provisions.
Investigations revealed that there is no law restricting the sale of any alcoholic beverage by the NYSC as the bye-laws stipulate the punishment of 20 to 30 minutes drill for any corps member who gets drunk.
According to the NYSC bye-laws, Section 3 (1)(f) “any member found to be drunk shall be tried by the Camp Court and, if found guilty, be liable to extra drill and/or confinement to the camp rehabilitation room for 30 minutes”.
So, the founding fathers of the scheme strategically planned the operations like the military. Every corps member and camp officials are adults who have the right and freedom of choice.
* Corps members, marketers set for showdown with Balama
Already, the corps members, who described the camp as dull and the camp marketers, who are counting their losses, have vowed to vent their anger on the authorities.
The marketers lamented that after paying between N5,000 to N50,000 depending on the product of sale or service, they were being banned from selling their products.
Private organisations such as NBL and Guinness which usually sponsor social activities in NYSC camps have been told to stay away.
However, it was observed that there is no separation on the basis of sex at the platoons or refectory, but male and female corps members are no longer permitted to hang out together, hold their hands or hug each other.
The AUTHORITY gathered that Balama is having his way because he hails from the same state with the present Director-General (DG) of the NYSC. They are both from Jigawa State and were school mates.
Some aggrieved officials said that the DG has obviously supported all of Balama’s actions, adding that the directors are afraid to caution him to avoid being in the DG’s bad books.
He was posted to the FCT in October 2017, after a short tenure at Zamfara and Kaduna States.
Some corps members and security operatives at the Kubwa camp confirmed that there is a “draconian decree” banning the consumption of alcohol, smoking of cigarette and male and female socialisation in the premises.
Apart from summoning all the NYSC officials in the camp to order them to strictly enforce the new law and deal with anybody who flouts the “decree”, Balama was said to have held a meeting with food and drinks vendors in the camp’s makeshift business hub, and warned them that none of them must engage in the sale of any alcoholic beverage and cigarette.
When The AUTHORITY visited the Kubwa Camp on Monday, coinciding with the swearing-in of the corps members, the atmosphere was tense. Male corps members formed separate clusters, while the females also formed their own clusters.
A visit to the Mami Market showed that the State Coordinator’s decree was already having its negative effects on the camp. All the food and drinks’ vendors said the State Coordinator passed the anti-alcohol law. Some of the corps members at the booths were only seen with soft drinks.
Others who were livid with anger at the “law” insist that it would be in the best interest of the State Coordinator to reverse the policy, stressing that they may be forced to take the law into their hands.
According to them, the State Coordinator has overstepped his bound and was treading on dangerous grounds.
One of the corps members urged the Federal Government to call Balama to order. “How can you explain that most of us came from states in the North Central, South East, South-South and South West and this coordinator wants to impose Sharia law on us.
“He has practically killed a major part of the fun and excitement that is associated with the NYSC orientation camp. I can assure you that we cannot accept this law”.
A female corps member was also piqued at the FCT coordinator for insisting that socialisation between male and female corps members was outlawed. She pointed out that the state coordinator was merely being hypocritical to think that he could stop socialisation between adults in the camp simply because he is imposing his religious ideology.
“I am a Muslim, but I am totally against the policy of this coordinator. How can he say people of other faith should not drink alcohol just because he does not drink?
“And to think that he also wants to regulate socialisation by corps members is, to say the least, childish and hypocritical. We are all adults here and are responsible enough. Nobody should impose his religious ideology on other people. This man should just reverse himself and apologise,” she insisted.
Security operatives in the camp also did not find the FCT Coordinator’s “decree” funny. The operatives who lamented that this was the first time they were experiencing such an imposition in the orientation camp, called on Balama to review the policy.
According to them, the policy has the capacity to inflame the youth corps members and incite them to protest and violence.
The food and drinks vendors at the Mami Market said they were the worst hit by the coordinator’s “decree”. They told the AUTHORITY that they were counting their losses since the “decree” came into effect.
One of the vendors said they had already stockpiled their shops waiting for the corps members to arrive in the camp before the coordinator imposed the Sharia code.
Mallam Balama who reacted to the allegations on telephone confirmed that he actually passed the policy. He notes that he did not see anything wrong with the policy which he said, will bring sanity and decency in the camp.
When The AUTHORITY visited Balama’s office at the Camp Secretariat, some of his aides said that he had just finished with the swearing-in ceremony and had retired to his room to sleep.
Several calls were made to his mobile phone but he did not pick the calls.
Balama had invited The AUTHORITY upon enquiry to come to the camp to see the situation on ground.

Lazy Nigerian Youths: If you want a good carpenter today, you need a Togolese, Cameroonians or Ghanaians, says Igbokwe

Joe Igbokwe, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has thrown his weight behind the statement allegedly made by President Muhammadu Buhari that a lot Nigerian youths prefer to sit and not work.
Buhari, while speaking at the Commonwealth Business Forum in London few days ago, had said most Nigerian youths want everything free without doing anything.
Supporting Buhari’s remark, Igbokwe insisted that some Nigerian youths are actually lazy.
In a Facebook post, the publicity secretary of the APC in Lagos said youths now prefer “Okada business, yahoo yahoo and begging” to learning a trade that will take them years to perfect.
Igbokwe wrote” “10 REASONS WHY I INSIST SOME NIGERIAN YOUTHS ARE LAZY.
“A research carried out at NNAMDI Azikiwe University Awka Anambra State found out that Students spend more time doing some funny things on the Internet than focusing on their books.
“In the 90s I had some two Children of close family members in my house. They were about writing their WEAC Exams but I didn’t see them for one day reading for the exams. When I confronted them they said ‘ Uncle do not worry we will pass’ They ‘passed’ and today they are ‘graduates’ but I know they are not.
“Today in Nigeria if you want a good carpenter, Tiler or POP man you need to get the Togolese, Camerounians, Ghanaians to do the job.
“I have met Mothers who are ready to give anything including their bodies for their Children to get admission into Universities and even to pass common entrance exams.
“For years I have pleaded with some of the young people I know to go to learn a trade and even when I succeeded in getting them places to learn something they usually run away to go and continue to beg.
“I have met many of our young people who said they went to university and when you engage them you will discover instantly that they are fake graduates who are not employable and yet they will tell you there are no jobs.
“One of my brothers spent good money to get his wife who claimed to be a graduate a teaching appointment. He pushed and pushed until one day he was invited by the man who wants to help him. My brother was shocked to the marrows when the man told him that the woman should return to class one in Secondary School and that she knows nothing.
“In the South East today hundreds of young men have been brutally killed in drug related offenses in South Africa, Thailand, Malaysia and other Countries. Some sell their Kidnies to raise money. Give these young men a job of 200k a month they will just laugh at you.
“Today in NNEWI where I come from it is difficult for you to get a young boy to learn a trade for say 5,6,7 years before they are established. They prefer Okada business, yahoo yahoo, begging etc.
“There are so many fake Proprietors of universities and Polytechnics in NIGERIA that are only interested in money and nothing else. They go to JAMB and bribe them to send these 10th rate poor students to them. They push and push them until they graduate and the vicious cycle continues. We have close to 200 Higher Institutions but how many of them are real higher institutions.
“I am passionate about getting our Country to work again and that is the reason why I am challenging the young people of Nigeria. My father abused us for laziness and untoward behaviors to make us strong and dedicated. Our teachers in those days abused, flogged and gave us pits to dig for failing to do our assignments. I know a father who went to pick his son in Navy school Abeokuta for holidays. When he got there and was told that the boy failed his exams the man turned his car and left for LAGOS without the boy. He did not return to pick that boy until after one week. It became a turning point in the life of that boy.”

PDP to President Buhari: ''Your CHOGM Trip was a Colossal Waste''

PDP to President Buhari:
Read the press statement from PDP below
President Buhari’s attendance of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in United Kingdom, which came at huge cost to the nation, was a colossal waste.
Nigerians are not surprised that the President returned last night, empty handed and with no tangible dividend, a development which is the direct consequence of his negative comments about Nigerians and his presentation of false performance indices to his hosts.
While other commonwealth heads of state used the occasion to negotiate businesses and showcase the potentials and opportunities in their countries, our President only succeeded in de-marketing our dear country and painting our citizens, particularly the youths, in the negative.
Nigerians may recall that during his meeting with British Prime Minister,
Theresa May, President Buhari, in the quest to hide the failures of his administration and push his 2019 re-election bid, Mr President downplayed the worsened economic and security situation in the country under his watch, but opted for self praise and brandishing unsubstantiated record of performance.
This self-serving stance ultimately blocked all beneficial bilateral engagements that could have helped secure the much needed international interventions in those critical areas.
Two days after, President Buhari again took the stage at the Commonwealth Business Forum in London and announced to international investors that Nigerian youths, a demography that forms the bulk of our nation’s workforce, are uneducated and lovers of freebies.
We were therefore not surprised that no serious investor sealed any meaningful investment deal with Nigeria as dividend from the CHOGM.
It is also instructive to note that despite the public outrage that trailed his denigration of our youths, the Buhari Presidency has not offered any apology to the nation, particularly our youths, thus further confirming the disdain in which this administration holds our young men and woman.
Having returned from CHOGM with nothing but wasted opportunities, the next move by the Buhari Presidency would be to hugely mobilize their spin-doctors with public resources and direct them to inundate the media with claims of imaginary gains in an effort to befool Nigerians.
Nevertheless, while we request the Presidency to immediately make public the cost of this trip on the national coffers, we note that the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its Federal Government have irredeemably failed and can no longer represent our interest and aspiration as a nation.
Nigerians must therefore unite to save our nation from imminent collapse by rallying with the repositioned platform of the PDP to enthrone a purposeful and people-oriented government, come 2019.

Abuja High Court remands staff of National Health Insurance Scheme in prison for violence against his own children

A High Court of the Federal Capital Territory Number 28 sitting in Apo, Abuja, has remanded a 40 year old man, Alex Okafor in prison custody for an alleged act of violence and inflicting injuries on his three children.
The three children (names withheld) are aged 8, 10 and 11 years.
His remand was sequel to his arraignment by the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons, (NAPTIP) and his inability to meet the bail conditions granted him by the Court.
The defendant was dragged before the Court on a three count charge under the provisions of the Violence Against Persons (Prohibition) Act 2015. He was arraigned in the case of FRN Vs Alex Okafor with Charge number CR/161/18.
Okafor, a staff of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) resides at 47 Sector F, Pipeline Road, Bazango Layout, Kubwa, Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja.
He was charged with willfully inflicting physical injury on his three children (2 daughters and one son) using horse whip (koboko) and electric wire thereby committing an offence punishable under section 2(11) of the Violence Against Persons (Prohibition) Act, 2015.
After the charges were read over to him the defendant pleaded not guilty to all the counts in the charge sheet. His Counsel Maxwell Alaeto moved an application before the Court relying on a 9 - paragraph affidavit and a written address to support his request.
The Prosecution led by Offiah Sam opposed the motion for bail with a 20 - paragraph counter affidavit on the ground that the defendant constitutes a threat to the children who he constantly unleashes terror on.
Ruling on the bail application, the Presiding Judge, Honourable Justice Valentine B. Ashi, ruled that since there was nothing inform of attachment to justify the oral submission on the alleged act of violence being committed by the defendant against the children, the court must uphold his fundamental right to bail.
The Court therefore granted him bail in the sum of N500, 000 (Five Hundred Thousand Naira) and 2 sureties in like some one of which must be his Pastor and another person a Civil Servant.
The defendant could not fulfil the bail conditions and was thereafter remanded in  Kuje prison pending the fulfillment of his bail conditions.
Further hearing on the matter has been adjourned to 19th June, 2018

Girlfriend stabbed boyfriend, starved him and poured boiling water on to him

Girlfriend stabbed boyfriend, starved him and poured boiling water on to him
A controlling and abusive girlfriend who put her boyfriend through hell by assaulting him, depriving him of food, and banning him from their bed, has been jailed
Jordan Worth, 22, was handed a seven-and-a-half-year sentence at Luton Crown Court on Friday after she admitted carrying out several cruel acts against her ex-boyfriend. The college sweethearts started dating in 2012 when they were both 16 but there were worrying signs from the beginning, the court heard.
The court heard how Jordan, a university graduate, scalded her boyfriend with boiling water and stabbed him at their home in the village of Stewartby, in Bedfordshire, England. The boyfriend suffered from hydrocephalus that was caused by a build-up of fluid inside the skull and made him vulnerable.
In addition to the violence, Jordan also decided what clothes her boyfriend was allowed to wear. It was also reported that she did not let him sleep in their bed for nine months and also took over his Facebook account. It got worse when she began using objects to strike him, wounding him with a knife and then failing to get him any medical help.
The campaign of abuse ended in June when neighbours called police to the couple’s home in the early hours after hearing shouting. The ambulance crew noted injuries to his hand, burns to arms and legs that were being self-treated with cling film. There was also cling film round his ankles, and a hand wound that was bleeding.
The boyfriend was immediately taken to the hospital where it was discovered he had second and third degree burns that left permanent scarring and "5% of his total body surface was scalded." Neighbours added they had often heard the couple arguing and the victim was seen on occasions with black eyes, a limp, and with his arm in sling.
A neighbor told how Jordan was once seen at a window "armed" with a screwdriver or hammer. Jordan was later arrested and admitted charges of controlling or coercive behaviour in an intimate relationship, wounding with intent and causing grievous bodily harm with intent.
The court heard Jordan, who is now in a new relationship, had two sides and came from a loving and supportive family and had previously carried out voluntary work. She was made the subject of a restraining order which prevents her from contacting her ex for an indefinite period. Jordan had discouraged her former partner from contacting his family during the abusive relationship.
Judge Nic Madge said: "She accepts that she has in the past, on a number of occasions, used blunt objects and implements to strike him and that he suffered injuries as a result of her doing so. She accepts using boiling or hot water to cause injury to him."

According to Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, some of the finest crops of Christians in Nigeria currently serve in the Buhari-led administration. Osinbajo said this at the 50th thanksgiving service of Senator Binta Garba in Adamawa state yesterday April 15th. “The truth of the matter is that in the government of today, we have some of the most erudite Christians, some of the best Christians occupying positions in government. Boss Mustapha, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, who is a pastor; the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Winifred Oyo-Ita and of course I, the Vice-President are all Christians. But it is not enough to have Christians in government like myself. It is never enough. If you look through the scriptures whether it was Joseph, Daniel or Esther, every person who made an impact in governance in the scripture that we see was supported by the prayers of the people of God. God is not moved unless we move His hands in the place of prayers. We are in a period in history when God wants to do something that is why some of us are in government. The opportunity must not be lost, your prayers to God will make that difference.” he said

''Why I threatened not to support my husband for a second term'' Aisha Buhari

Wife of President BuhariAisha Buhari, has given reasons why she openly criticised her husband and threatened to withdraw her support for his re-election bid.

Mrs Buhari in October 2016, granted an interview to BBC Hausa where she expressed disappointment at her husband's administration. In the interview, Mrs Buhari expressed doubt that she would support him if he seeks re-election unless he implemented immediate changes in personnel and policies.
“He is yet to tell me if he’ll seek re-election but I have decided as his wife, that if things continue like this up to 2019, I will not go out and campaign again and ask any woman to vote like I did before. I will never do it again.” Mrs Buhari said during the interview
However in her acceptance letter to Vanguard newspaper who just made her their person of the year 2017, Mrs Buhari said she would now support his re-election bid.
“One of the reasons adduced for honouring me was the interview I granted which some people saw as criticism to a government that I am part of. I need to state that my position was a result of my sense of justice and not confrontation or disrespect. I was brought up to stand by the truth and this is how I have always been. As we are all aware, Nigerians elected this administration based on the trust and confidence they have on my husband. I therefore feel that we are here to serve Nigeria to the best of our ability. Let me use this opportunity to state that I support my husband in this call to service and will continue to do so,” she stated in her letter
