Goodluck Jonathan should stop playing the ostrich, he and his party have nothing to say about achievements - Presidency

The Presidency has issued a strongly worded statement rejectingformer president, Dr Goodluck Jonathans claimthat there is more corruption in the country compared to when he left office. This is absolutely untrue. The facts on the ground today run contrary to his outlandish claim. The statement said, President Buhari, in pursuit of the war against corruption, has set a number of local and international records, one of which is to call judicial officers in Nigeria to account. He is the first to set such a record. Not only that, this is the first time that top military commanders and Service Chiefs are brought to trial and convictions were achieved on account of corruption. Read the rest of the statement below... Also, this is the first time a ruling party is convicting high profile citizens including former governors, who are members of same party. This is the first time the international community is acknowledging the efforts of a government of Nigeria in this regard as manifested by the selection of President Buhari by the African Union as the Anti-Corruption Champion of the continent. For the records, this is the first time a ruling party is investigating ranking officers of the administration, including some at the very top. In addition to the many firsts recorded by President Buharis administration, the government has introduced a lot of changes, considering that the laws relating to the fight against corruption cannot reasonably be static. In line with its aspiration to be ahead of the growing sophistication of corruption and financial crimes, the administration has initiated new legislations and proposed amendments to different sections of laws, among which are: The Money Laundering Prevention and Prohibition Bill 2017; Anti-Terrorism Prevention and Prohibition Bill 2017; Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit Bill 2017 (NFIU); Proceeds of Crime Bill 2017; Public Interest Disclosure and Witness Protection Bill, 2017 and The Mutual Legal Assistance in Criminal Matters Bill, 2017. Owing to these efforts and support all of relevant stakeholders, NFIU Act has been passed and President Buhari gave his assent on July 18, 2018. The administration is currently working with the legislature for an expedited passage of the Proceeds of Crimes Bill to make the anti-corruption war more effective. Nigerians should dismiss Dr. Jonathans hollow boast that he, not President Buhari, introduced schemes such the Biometric Verification Number, VBN, Treasury Single Account, TSA and the Integrated Personnel and Payroll Information System (IPPS). Of what use is the announcement of good policies without the will to implement them? Since President Buhari assumed office, Nigerians are witnesses to the huge success recorded through the implementation of the TSA where some government agencies that had over the years remitted peanut amounts or nothing at all are now periodically pumping billions into government coffers. Prominent among these remittances include the ones made by Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), Nigeria Customers Service (NCS) and Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA). While it is also true that the BVN was introduced in 2014 to ensure that all bank accounts have biometric identification of their owners, the lack of will and capacity under Dr Jonathan stalled implementation. Today, BVN covers nearly all bank accounts. There are still some individuals who have shielded their identity and are now afraid of enrolling on the BVN platform as this will expose them and their corrupt actions. The law is going after them. President Buharis administration introduced the whistle-blower policy as a veritable tool against corruption as it gives individuals an opportunity to expose corruption, fraud, bribery, looted government funds, financial misconducts, government assets and any other form of corruption or theft. Within six months of introducing this policy, over 5,000 reports were made through various channels, 365 actionable tips were received out of the 5000 reports. So far more than N200bn has been recovered. As the Minister of Justice and Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami (SAN), said on Thursday, the former President does not have the facts to claim that there was any serious effort on the part of his administration to fight corruption. As at 29th May 2015, when this administration came into office, the EFCC recovery account had only N19.5 billion as revealed by the Minister of Justice and Attorney-General. After one year of the new anti-corruption drive by the Buhari administration, this figure had gone up to N279 billion, and since then a lot more has been recovered. Finally, as evidenced from a fleeting look at the book, the former President had nothing to say about his own achievements. If there was a recession, and yes we had a moment in it, was it due to one year of President Buharis government? In his efforts to blame everyone but himself for his failures, Dr Jonathan heaped the blame for the predictable economic recession on President Buhari, ignoring the seeds sown under him through mismanagement and the process set in firm roots for the decline of the economy. Evidently, he did nothing to avert the situation. As we have explained over and over, the recession in 2016 was caused by years of mismanagement and corruption. In the 16 years of PDP and earlier than that, the country solely relied on oil, the price of which was as high as 140 USD per barrel under their watch. Government simply reticulated oil revenue through personal spending by corrupt leaders, wasteful expenses and salaries; rather than investing in what would grow the economy. There was no investment in infrastructure as President Buhari is now doing in seaports, airports, power plants, railways, roads and housing. The oil windfall for the country was mismanaged, and Nigerias greatest opportunity for growth was turned into a tragedy. More worrisome, there were no savings. And to compound the problem and compromise growth of the economy, the previous government borrowed heavily, owed contractors and international oil companies. When President Buhari came into power in 2015, the country had accumulated debt, which took it back to the level it was before the Paris Club Debt forgiveness. Nigeria did not have fiscal buffers to withstand an oil shock when oil prices fell to as low as 28 USD. The oil shock should and could have been foreseen. When visionary Nigerians and economists foresaw this and warned of the dangers ahead, Dr Jonathan hounded such men as the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi 11 and Professor Chukwuma Soludo. Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Coordinating Minister of the Economy and Minister of Finance under Dr Jonathans administration also warned and she was rebuffed. The former President and his party have nothing to say about achievements. They ruled the country for 16 years and what is their record on jobs, power, rail, seaports, airports and internal security, including the crippling disaster of terrorism? The Presidency has issued a strongly worded statement rejecting former president, Dr Goodluck Jonathan’s claim that there is more corruption in the country compared to when he left office. This is absolutely untrue. 'Many mocked me when I started but today, Instagram has helped me build a brand known all over the world' - Hushpuppi

IG celebrity, Ray Hushpuppi, took to his IG page this morning to share some motiviational talk while going down memory lane to when he started as an influencer on social media. According to him, many people mocked him when he started to use Instagram to push his identity but today, he has through the social platform built a brand that is known all over the world and is financially rewarding for him. Read his piece belowI remember back in the days when we all started using Instagram, a lot of people threw shots at you for doing what you like, guess what? Those who were deaf to the negativity are what we call influencers today! SUCCESS , now has the shameless shouting , “I am a huge fan”. Today, so many brands cater and care about me, they treat me well and the benefits I get from them are huge! I have built my name into a brand known across the world, which has opened many doors for me in several aspects of life including financially! I am proud that I wasn’t discouraged by the nay sayers (mostly the ones from where I’m from who never want to see their own people shine)! I appreciate all those who have never stopped showing me love!Really the moral of my story is, you have to believe in your dream more than anyone else! People will discourage you and mostly it’s not what you’re doing that they don’t like, what makes them uncomfortable is why YOU! Know your WHY, focus on it! Hear what they say but don’t listen! People advise you according to the season in their lives! Don’t let a man living in a cold country advise you where to by a coat in a desert! They judge you according to their ability, not yours! Most people these days are hypocrites, if they tell you that you can’t do it or u don’t do it well, don’t listen, they are only trying to break you so u can lose your spot then they later mock you for losing your spot. Stay glued to your dream, Don’t let them talk you into losing your spot, their only weapon is talk and their only achievement remains TALK.The post 'Many mocked me when I started but today, Instagram has helped me build a brand known all over the world' - Hushpuppi

Why we shut down some telecom facilities - Kogi State government explains

Why we shut down some telecom facilities -Kogi State government explainsThe Kogi State government said the shutting down of some Telecom facilities operating across the state was based on adherence to court orders. The Director of Legal and Enforcement, Kogi State Internal Revenue Service (KGIRS), Barrister Jamil Isah Abdullah disclosed this in Lokoja on Wednesday night while speaking with newsmen over the shutting down of MTN and Airtel facilities in the state.   He noted that KGIRS has since inception of the present administration, invited the telecom service providers for dialogue on the modality for the payment of the levy, but they refused to honour the invitations. He pointed out that based on the refusal, Kogi State Internal Revenue Service (KGIRS) proceeded to Court in accordance with provisions of the law and obtained an order to shut the business premises of Airtel and MTN to recover the sum owed.  “The major telecoms affected for now are MTN and Airtel. The sites that have been shut for Airtel are just 5 while MTN is 4. So the 150 mentioned on the online news is incorrect. The demanded levies, rents and fees are also not illegal. In the case of Airtel, they have not paid their Right of Way permit fees which allows them to lay fibre optic cables in Kogi State. This payment has been due and owed since 2016. There are outstanding yearly rents payable on the Right of Way Permits for the year 2016 to 2018.  There is also the Annual Social Service Development Levy and the Annual Employee Economic Development Levy. Penalty for failure to pay all these are included”, he noted.  He added that all the payments were by virtue of a law in Kogi State which was duly passed by the Kogi state House of Assembly. He, however, revealed that one of the telecom service providers had come to the negotiating table to pay what was due, stressing that the other still remained recalcitrant and engaged hoodlums to refuel their facilities in the night, an action which he described to be against the law.The post Why we shut down some telecom facilities -Kogi State government explains.

Saraki demands investigation into death of Offa bank robbery principal suspect, Micahel Adikwu

Senate President, Bukola Saraki, has called for an investigation into the mysterious death of Michael Adikwu, the principal suspect in the deadly bank robbery attacks  that took place in Offa, Kwara State, on April 5th.Recall that the Kwara state Attorney General on Wednesday told an Ilorin High Court that the police informed his office that the principal suspect died in their custody. Read here. Also recall that the suspects had implicated Saraki and the state governor Ahmed Abdulfatai. The suspects had in June alleged that they were political thugs of the senate president and had converted the weapons he gave to them for robbery operations.Saraki in a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Yusuph Olaniyonu, urged the Presidency to institute a judicial inquiry into how and when the principal suspect died in police custody. He stated that the inquiry would help to thoroughly examine and interrogate how the investigation into the robbery incident was conducted by the Police and whether the investigation followed the normal process and comply with global best practices.Saraki added that the Police needed to confirm why it took them so long to make the disclosure about the death of the principal suspect after they categorically denied it at the time he (Saraki) disclosed the information and it was reported in the media.“Following eventual disclosure by the Police that Michael Adikwu, the principal suspect in the deadly bank robbery attacks in Offa, Kwara State, on April 5, 2018, is dead, the President of the Senate, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, has called on the Presidency to institute a judicial inquiry into the ‘how and when’ the suspect died.”Saraki saidThe statement continues“It should be recalled that when we mentioned it that the principal suspect had been murdered and that investigation into the Offa robbery attack was politically motivated and targeted at implicating me and other individuals, the Police Public Relations Officer, Moshood Jimoh said: ‘Michael Adikwu is in Police custody.“You know that he is the one that led the killing of 22 people. The firearms that were carted away, he is helping the police in the investigation to recover them. There is a state in the South-west where they kept him. I can’t mention the state. It is in one of the South-west states’.“The fresh facts have now thrown more light into why there had been inconsistencies in the various statements by the police. The Police initially told the Attorney-General of Kwara State that the principal suspect was alive and they only later reluctantly disclosed that he died in the course of the arrest.“How can a suspect confirmed to be in custody now be said to have died in the course of arrest? Alleged N2.1bn ONSA Fraud:Federal High Court orders Raymond Dokpesito open his defence inFebruary2019Chairman, Daar Communications, Raymond Dokpesi, who is being prosecuted by the EFCC before Justice John Tsoho of a Federal High Court, Abuja has been ordered to open his defence on February 20, 2019. Dokpesi alongside DAAR Investment and Holdings Ltd, owners of African Independent Television, AIT, and Raypower are being prosecuted by the EFCC, on a six-count charge bordering on alleged procurement fraud and breach of public trust. He is alleged to have received N2.1billion from the Office of the National Security Adviser, ONSA, between October 2014 and March 2015, during tenure of Col Sambo Dasuki (retd) as NSA for services not rendered. The EFCC had through its 12th witness, Abubakar Aliyu Madaki, led in evidence by Rotimi Jacobs, SAN, stressed that the defendant “did not do any contract but was paid”. However, rather than open its case, the media mogul had through his counsel, Kanu Agabi, SAN, filed a "no-case" submission arguing that his client had no case to answer in the alleged fraud. At today's proceeding, Justice Tsoho, after going through all the arguments and counter-arguments, dismissed his "no-case" application and ordered him to open his defence at the next adjourned date. “I hereby strike out the application,” the judge said, stressing that Dokpesi's claim that he had no case to answer could not be substantiated and so was a false claimThe post Alleged N2.1bn ONSA Fraud.

Alleged $3m Bribe: Femi Otedola appears In court, Insists Senator Farouk Lawan demanded money

Alleged $3m Bribe: Femi Otedola appears In court, Insists FaroukLawan demanded moneyOn Wednesday, founder of Zenon Oil, Femi Otedola appeared before an Abuja High Court to testify in the trial of a former member of the House of Representatives, Farouk Lawan for alleged fraud.   Otedola who is a prosecution witness in the trial was allegedly pressured by Lawan to part with a three-million-dollar bribe while Lawan was chairing a subcommittee investigating a multi-billion-dollar fraud associated with government fuel subsidy during the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan.   Otedola entered the witness box after he was introduced by the prosecution counsel, Adegboyega Awomolo after which a video where Lawan was seen receiving $500 000 from the Zenon oil boss, was played. According to Otedola, the accused had indicted his company in the alleged fraud and demanded three million dollars to exonerate him. He added that after the initial deposit of $500,000 was paid into his account, Lawan declared Zenon Oil and Gas free of the initial indictment.   When asked by the prosecution counsel about the claim by Lawan that the witness forced him to take the money, Otedola denied it. Otedola also denied a claim by Lawan that Zenon Oil and Gas was exonerated on the basis of documents later provided by the company.   The defence counsel was, however, unable to cross-examine Otedola as he requested for an adjournment to enable his principal to attend the next trial and conduct the cross-examination. Lawan was first arraigned in February 2013 along with another accused, Boniface Emenalo, for allegedly receiving $620,000 of the alleged bribe from Otedola and his company. The post Alleged $3m Bribe:
