Pastor who claimed God ordered him to rape 8 members is jailed

One of the Korean cult leader was convicted on Thursday and jailed for 15 years after he raped eight female followers - some of whom believed he was 'God'.Pastor Lee Jaerock set up the Manmin Central Church in Guro, Seoul, South Korea, with just 12 followers in 1982. It grew to 130,000 members, most of whom revered the pastor and believed he was God. As a result, his victims were "unable to resist as they were subject to the accused's absolute religious authority", judge Chung Moon-sung told the Seoul Central District Court. But three of Lee's followers went public earlier this year, as South Korea was swept with a wave of #MeToo accusations. The followers who exposed him described how he had summoned each of them to an apartment and raped them.  One of the women who had been a member of the church since childhood told South Korean television:I was unable to turn him down.He was more than a king. He was God.Lee told another of his victims that she was now in Heaven and asked her to strip as Adam and Eve went naked in the Garden of Eden. The woman told JTBC television:I cried as I hated to do it.Eight women laid criminal complaints but the 75-year-old pastor's lawyers accused the women of lying to seek vengeance after being excommunicated for breaching church rules. However, the court found Lee had raped and molested the women "tens of times" over a long period. The judge said:Through his sermons the accused has indirectly or directly suggested he is the holy spirit, deifying himself. The victims believed him to be 'a divine being who wields divine power'Lee denied the charges. As the judgement was read, with around 100 of his followers present in the courtroom, the disgraced pastor stood with his eyes closed and showed no emotion. He was convicted on Thursday, November 22, and jailed for 15 years.

''You can't deceive South East with false promises''- PDP tells President Buhari

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has told President Buhari that Nigerians are no longer interested in 'fake promises and false performance claims' now that elections are around the corner. The PDP says the attempt by the Buhari-led government to lure the South-East geo-political zones into supporting his second term fell like a pack of cards as the people have resolved not to follow any leader who can not deliver on his promises.Recall that the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, yesterday told the South East region that the only way to acqualize their dream of occupying the presidency in 2023, is to vote enmass for President Buhari in 2019. Read here.PDP in its statement signed by its spokesperson, Kola Ologbondiyan, said APC has become jittery since the South East have expressed their support for the PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar. Read part of the statement belowThe party said President Buhari and the APC have been jittery since the Southeast and other geo-political zones across board expressed an overwhelming acceptance of the PDP Presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, due to his proven competence, respect for equity and all-inclusiveness in governance.Instead of accepting his failure, which is manifest to all, President Buhari, who is reputed for not fulfilling campaign promises, is busy making a fresh list of fake promises to Nigerians. In this desperation, Mr. President fails to understand that the people of the South East, just like other Nigerians, are too sophisticated to fall for gimmicks, false promises and ethnic politics, and as such cannot be swayed from their resolve to rally with Atiku Abubakar to rescue our nation from the shackles of misrule.Nigerians have since seen through President Buhari’s bouquet of failures and fake promises, which in any case, cannot heal the wounds of marginalization, nepotism, inequity, disregard for federal character principle and harsh economic policies, including obnoxious foreign exchange regulations and heavy taxations of his administration, which are killing businesses and plunging families into extreme poverty.Nigerians, including those in the South East, know that President Buhari does not keep promises. They know that he has not fulfilled any of the promises he made during the 2015 campaign. As such, they cannot fall to the same old trick ahead of the 2019 general election. Moreover, President Buhari is yet to apologize to the Southeast and other geo-political zones over his administration’s indictment for human rights violations, extra-judicial killings, illegal arrests, arbitrary detention, torture and reported disappearances, as detailed in the reports by the United States Department of State, Amnesty International (AI) and Transparency International (TI).Instead of clutching on straws and seeking to beguile Nigerians with fake promises, blame game and false performance indices, President Buhari should come to terms with the fact that there is no way Nigerians can change their minds about voting in Atiku Abubakar as his inevitable replacement come February, 2019.The PDP therefore commends Nigerians across board for their boldness in confronting President Buhari with his failures and their resolve not to be beguiled again in the 2019 elections.

Freeze makes insinuations about Bishop David Oyedepo and Covenant University

Controversial OAP Ifedayo Olarinde, better known as  Daddy Freeze, is making some insinuations about Covenant University and the founder of the institution, Bishop David Oyedepo. The OAP, who regularly criticizes the teachings of a number of pastors, shared a photo collage showing a number of powerful people posing with their hands steepled in the shape of a triangle.Bishop Oyedepo, Donald Trump, Michelle Obama, Angela Merkel, Michelle Obama, Steve Harvey, were all in the photo collage with the same hand gesture.Freeze made no direct accusations but made an insinuation, leaving it open for his followers to interpret as they wish.A number of followers interpreted it to mean that he's accusing them of throwing up the Illuminati sign. But some pointed out to Freeze that the gesture could also be a pose to show confidence.  He went on the share another photo showing the aerial view of Bishop Oyedepo's school, Covenant University. The spot on which the institution stands was circled with a red marker to show the school designed in the form of the Star of David, a symbol of Judaism. His caption for the photo was also laden with insinuations. He then shared a screenshot of a Wikipedia definition of Satanism, which happens to have the Star of David inside a circle as the symbol for Satanism. His caption for the post reads: " Wordless post."In another post, he shared the same star and said the Bible never referred to it as the Star of David, instead it is referred to in the bible as the star belonging to satan.See his posts below and make your deductions.

Fayose reacts as EFCC reportedly seal off properties belonging to him

Former Governor of Ekiti state, Ayo Fayose, has denied ownership of six properties EFCC operatives  sealed off today claiming that they belong to him. There were reports earlier today that some properties linked to the governor in Abuja and Ekiti state, were sealed off with the sign ''EFCC, Keep off'' placed on them. The sealing of the properties may be connected to a court order which authorised the seizure of the properties suspected to have been built with corrupt proceeds. Recall that Fayose is standing trial for a N2.2 billion fraud perpetrated while in office. Reacting to the news, Fayose in a statement released by his media aide, Lere Olayinka, denied ownership of the sealed properties. He said the agency went about sealing off properties belonging to innocent citizens.“I have just been informed that operatives of the EFCC are going about sealing houses of innocent people in the state, under the guise that the houses are linked to me. This is another wild goose chase and the usual media campaign against my person. It is only in our country that an anti corruption agency will first go about sealing houses before determining the ownership, which can be done so easily by visiting relevant agencies. I am therefore, informing the public ahead of their usual blackmail and media trial. Please note that none of the property in question is owned by me and the records are there for anyone that is interested to see.The EFCC is advised to stop going about looking for ways to malign my person just because of their hatred as a result of my uncompromising stands on national issues. Even if the commission is being pressured from ‘above’ to persecute me at all cost, it should at least, do its job diligently to save itself from persistent embarrassment''.

This is one of the few times in our National history that a truly good person has taken that brave, political step - Cobhams Asuquo writes about Banky W

Nigerian music producer, Cobhams Asuquo has narrated how Banky W refused to get paid for an advert he produced many years ago. According to Cobhams who produced the advert’s song which Banky laid his vocals to, that single experience he had with the singer makes him believe he is qualified for the public office he is running for.See what he wrote below... The first time I met Banky was in 2008. I was writing an Etisalat commercial and I needed a certain style of voice on the song. I thought of the fresh new artist who sang the song  "Ebutemetta" - BankyW. He was quite fresh on the naija music scene at that time, so I didn't know anything about him. After a few calls, I was able to track him down only to learn he wasn't in the country, but because I was determined to get his voice on the track, I stalled the project. When we finally got into the studio to voice the commercial, we worked through the night and I was struck by how professional, hard working and good natured he was. He left quite an impression on me, but the biggest surprise was yet to come. A few weeks later, I called him to confirm that the client had paid for the job and I had a cheque for him, but instead he flat out refused the cheque and didn't want to be paid! He said he was just happy to have done the job. I was shocked. Why would an artist, especially a new one refuse good money for a major campaign for a big brand? I was absolutely blown away! But I was glad about how the story eventually turned out.  The client loved the 0809ja song and wanted to meet the artist who sang on it to see him and know if he would be interested in also appearing in the TV commercial. One thing led to another and that's how BankyW, a brand new artist on the naija scene, became an Etisalat ambassador and went on to perform all over the country that year for the brand. I would later learn that one of the ogas at the advertising agency believed so strongly that Banky would deliver on the commercial that he staked his salary on it. . Fast forward to the present, Banky and I have developed one of the most treasured friendships I have in my life. With him I am able to have tough conversations. Nothing is off limits. He's not ashamed or afraid to express brotherly love in a way that others may consider to be "uncool". We became neighbours at a point and it wasn't uncommon for Banky to pop in just to make sure that I and my family were doing OK, or to invite me to his house to listen to music. We have worked on several projects together and each time, Banky would always in addition to his own tasks, place it upon himself to make sure I was doing fine. It's become such that when I have to work with a bunch of people in an unfamiliar space professionally or geographically speaking, just knowing Banky is there fills me with reassurance that I will be OK. I recall a friend's wedding we traveled for. I didn't travel with an aide. Banky was the Bestman and in the middle of his best man duties, he would always come check on me to make sure I was OK. Now, at this point you'll probably think, "well, it's because he's your friend", but the truth is that he is this same way with everyone, not just myself. It is just second nature to him to look out for others. He is one of the most naturally consistent people I know and there are many others who would testify to this. It's a special kind of person (especially in a time where corruption, selfishness and greed have practically become cultural "values"), that can start with practically nothing as he did, and over the years grow it into the successful brand and string of businesses we see today without tarnishing his image; while also maintaining the same stellar work ethic and positive attitude that anyone who has worked with him can attest to. I know because it all happened right in front of me. He has become an ambassador to many brands since we first met, and one thing anyone who has worked with him will tell you is that he is always professional, good spirited, conscientious and always ready to roll up his sleeves and get to work. At work or play, he will always arrive a few minutes early or exactly on time, and give his heart completely to whatever he had to do. In an industry that's very ..."interesting" to say the least, he is remarkably selfless and truly believes in love, service, friendship, togetherness and the power of community over the power of one. He is and has always been all these things and more, not because of any agenda. It is just the way he is. In a time where originality is hard to find and is often called to question, Banky is one person I know to be authentic. I think that all of this makes him an ideal candidate for the position he's trying to occupy. It's not only about how I have seen him behave with me, but about how I have seen him behave with others. I see no reason to  trust any one other than one who has shown themselves to be who they truly are; and who they are across the board has proven to always inspire. This is one of the few times in our National history, that a truly good person has taken that brave, political step forward to try to do some collective good. He is a testament to what you can do with a little hope. So I'm hoping that this time, we will not let ourselves down. Yes, ourselves. Not him. Because we finally have someone who is not in this race for himself, but for you and me. We finally have a real chance here, one we have long waited for. We can give this position to someone who not only truly deserves it, but who WE also deserve to have look out for US and OUR interests for once as Nigerians. I support @BankyW as he runs for the Lagos Eti Osa Federal Constituency seat in the House of Representatives in 2019.

Goodluck Jonathan should stop playing the ostrich, he and his party have nothing to say about achievements - Presidency

The Presidency has issued a strongly worded statement rejectingformer president, Dr Goodluck Jonathans claimthat there is more corruption in the country compared to when he left office. This is absolutely untrue. The facts on the ground today run contrary to his outlandish claim. The statement said, President Buhari, in pursuit of the war against corruption, has set a number of local and international records, one of which is to call judicial officers in Nigeria to account. He is the first to set such a record. Not only that, this is the first time that top military commanders and Service Chiefs are brought to trial and convictions were achieved on account of corruption. Read the rest of the statement below... Also, this is the first time a ruling party is convicting high profile citizens including former governors, who are members of same party. This is the first time the international community is acknowledging the efforts of a government of Nigeria in this regard as manifested by the selection of President Buhari by the African Union as the Anti-Corruption Champion of the continent. For the records, this is the first time a ruling party is investigating ranking officers of the administration, including some at the very top. In addition to the many firsts recorded by President Buharis administration, the government has introduced a lot of changes, considering that the laws relating to the fight against corruption cannot reasonably be static. In line with its aspiration to be ahead of the growing sophistication of corruption and financial crimes, the administration has initiated new legislations and proposed amendments to different sections of laws, among which are: The Money Laundering Prevention and Prohibition Bill 2017; Anti-Terrorism Prevention and Prohibition Bill 2017; Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit Bill 2017 (NFIU); Proceeds of Crime Bill 2017; Public Interest Disclosure and Witness Protection Bill, 2017 and The Mutual Legal Assistance in Criminal Matters Bill, 2017. Owing to these efforts and support all of relevant stakeholders, NFIU Act has been passed and President Buhari gave his assent on July 18, 2018. The administration is currently working with the legislature for an expedited passage of the Proceeds of Crimes Bill to make the anti-corruption war more effective. Nigerians should dismiss Dr. Jonathans hollow boast that he, not President Buhari, introduced schemes such the Biometric Verification Number, VBN, Treasury Single Account, TSA and the Integrated Personnel and Payroll Information System (IPPS). Of what use is the announcement of good policies without the will to implement them? Since President Buhari assumed office, Nigerians are witnesses to the huge success recorded through the implementation of the TSA where some government agencies that had over the years remitted peanut amounts or nothing at all are now periodically pumping billions into government coffers. Prominent among these remittances include the ones made by Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), Nigeria Customers Service (NCS) and Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA). While it is also true that the BVN was introduced in 2014 to ensure that all bank accounts have biometric identification of their owners, the lack of will and capacity under Dr Jonathan stalled implementation. Today, BVN covers nearly all bank accounts. There are still some individuals who have shielded their identity and are now afraid of enrolling on the BVN platform as this will expose them and their corrupt actions. The law is going after them. President Buharis administration introduced the whistle-blower policy as a veritable tool against corruption as it gives individuals an opportunity to expose corruption, fraud, bribery, looted government funds, financial misconducts, government assets and any other form of corruption or theft. Within six months of introducing this policy, over 5,000 reports were made through various channels, 365 actionable tips were received out of the 5000 reports. So far more than N200bn has been recovered. As the Minister of Justice and Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami (SAN), said on Thursday, the former President does not have the facts to claim that there was any serious effort on the part of his administration to fight corruption. As at 29th May 2015, when this administration came into office, the EFCC recovery account had only N19.5 billion as revealed by the Minister of Justice and Attorney-General. After one year of the new anti-corruption drive by the Buhari administration, this figure had gone up to N279 billion, and since then a lot more has been recovered. Finally, as evidenced from a fleeting look at the book, the former President had nothing to say about his own achievements. If there was a recession, and yes we had a moment in it, was it due to one year of President Buharis government? In his efforts to blame everyone but himself for his failures, Dr Jonathan heaped the blame for the predictable economic recession on President Buhari, ignoring the seeds sown under him through mismanagement and the process set in firm roots for the decline of the economy. Evidently, he did nothing to avert the situation. As we have explained over and over, the recession in 2016 was caused by years of mismanagement and corruption. In the 16 years of PDP and earlier than that, the country solely relied on oil, the price of which was as high as 140 USD per barrel under their watch. Government simply reticulated oil revenue through personal spending by corrupt leaders, wasteful expenses and salaries; rather than investing in what would grow the economy. There was no investment in infrastructure as President Buhari is now doing in seaports, airports, power plants, railways, roads and housing. The oil windfall for the country was mismanaged, and Nigerias greatest opportunity for growth was turned into a tragedy. More worrisome, there were no savings. And to compound the problem and compromise growth of the economy, the previous government borrowed heavily, owed contractors and international oil companies. When President Buhari came into power in 2015, the country had accumulated debt, which took it back to the level it was before the Paris Club Debt forgiveness. Nigeria did not have fiscal buffers to withstand an oil shock when oil prices fell to as low as 28 USD. The oil shock should and could have been foreseen. When visionary Nigerians and economists foresaw this and warned of the dangers ahead, Dr Jonathan hounded such men as the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi 11 and Professor Chukwuma Soludo. Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Coordinating Minister of the Economy and Minister of Finance under Dr Jonathans administration also warned and she was rebuffed. The former President and his party have nothing to say about achievements. They ruled the country for 16 years and what is their record on jobs, power, rail, seaports, airports and internal security, including the crippling disaster of terrorism? The Presidency has issued a strongly worded statement rejecting former president, Dr Goodluck Jonathan’s claim that there is more corruption in the country compared to when he left office. This is absolutely untrue. The facts on the ground today run contrary to his outlandish claim. The statement said President Buhari in pursuit of the war against corruption, has set a number of local and international records, one of which is to call judicial officers in Nigeria to account. Government simply reticulated oil revenue through personal spending by corrupt leaders, wasteful expenses and salaries; rather than investing in what would grow the economy. There was no investment in infrastructure as President Buhari is now doing in seaports, airports, power plants, railways, roads and housing. The oil windfall for the country was mismanaged, and Nigeria’s greatest opportunity for growth was turned into a tragedy. Nigeria did not have fiscal buffers to withstand an oil shock when oil prices fell to as low as 28 USD.The oil shock should and could have been foreseen. When visionary Nigerians and economists foresaw this and warned of the dangers ahead, Dr Jonathan hounded such men as the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi 11 and Professor Chukwuma Soludo. Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Coordinating Minister of the Economy and Minister of Finance under Dr Jonathan’s administration also warned and she was rebuffed. The former President and his party have nothing to say about achievements. They ruled the country for 16 years and what is their record on jobs, power, rail, seaports, airports and internal security, including the crippling disaster of terrorism?

'Many mocked me when I started but today, Instagram has helped me build a brand known all over the world' - Hushpuppi

IG celebrity, Ray Hushpuppi, took to his IG page this morning to share some motiviational talk while going down memory lane to when he started as an influencer on social media. According to him, many people mocked him when he started to use Instagram to push his identity but today, he has through the social platform built a brand that is known all over the world and is financially rewarding for him. Read his piece belowI remember back in the days when we all started using Instagram, a lot of people threw shots at you for doing what you like, guess what? Those who were deaf to the negativity are what we call influencers today! SUCCESS , now has the shameless shouting , “I am a huge fan”. Today, so many brands cater and care about me, they treat me well and the benefits I get from them are huge! I have built my name into a brand known across the world, which has opened many doors for me in several aspects of life including financially! I am proud that I wasn’t discouraged by the nay sayers (mostly the ones from where I’m from who never want to see their own people shine)! I appreciate all those who have never stopped showing me love!Really the moral of my story is, you have to believe in your dream more than anyone else! People will discourage you and mostly it’s not what you’re doing that they don’t like, what makes them uncomfortable is why YOU! Know your WHY, focus on it! Hear what they say but don’t listen! People advise you according to the season in their lives! Don’t let a man living in a cold country advise you where to by a coat in a desert! They judge you according to their ability, not yours! Most people these days are hypocrites, if they tell you that you can’t do it or u don’t do it well, don’t listen, they are only trying to break you so u can lose your spot then they later mock you for losing your spot. Stay glued to your dream, Don’t let them talk you into losing your spot, their only weapon is talk and their only achievement remains TALK.The post 'Many mocked me when I started but today, Instagram has helped me build a brand known all over the world' - Hushpuppi

Why we shut down some telecom facilities - Kogi State government explains

Why we shut down some telecom facilities -Kogi State government explainsThe Kogi State government said the shutting down of some Telecom facilities operating across the state was based on adherence to court orders. The Director of Legal and Enforcement, Kogi State Internal Revenue Service (KGIRS), Barrister Jamil Isah Abdullah disclosed this in Lokoja on Wednesday night while speaking with newsmen over the shutting down of MTN and Airtel facilities in the state.   He noted that KGIRS has since inception of the present administration, invited the telecom service providers for dialogue on the modality for the payment of the levy, but they refused to honour the invitations. He pointed out that based on the refusal, Kogi State Internal Revenue Service (KGIRS) proceeded to Court in accordance with provisions of the law and obtained an order to shut the business premises of Airtel and MTN to recover the sum owed.  “The major telecoms affected for now are MTN and Airtel. The sites that have been shut for Airtel are just 5 while MTN is 4. So the 150 mentioned on the online news is incorrect. The demanded levies, rents and fees are also not illegal. In the case of Airtel, they have not paid their Right of Way permit fees which allows them to lay fibre optic cables in Kogi State. This payment has been due and owed since 2016. There are outstanding yearly rents payable on the Right of Way Permits for the year 2016 to 2018.  There is also the Annual Social Service Development Levy and the Annual Employee Economic Development Levy. Penalty for failure to pay all these are included”, he noted.  He added that all the payments were by virtue of a law in Kogi State which was duly passed by the Kogi state House of Assembly. He, however, revealed that one of the telecom service providers had come to the negotiating table to pay what was due, stressing that the other still remained recalcitrant and engaged hoodlums to refuel their facilities in the night, an action which he described to be against the law.The post Why we shut down some telecom facilities -Kogi State government explains.
