Justice Sherifat Solebo of the Special Offences Court sitting in Ikeja,
Lagos, has revoked the bail of Ifeoma Okpalugo, a retired Assistant
Commissioner of Police, ACP, and three others, who are being prosecuted
for an alleged act of felony and stealing to the tune of N1, 301, 334,
108 (One Billion, Three Hundred and One Million, Three Hundred and
Thirty-four Thousand, One Hundred and Eight Naira). Okpalugo is facing
trial alongside Olumide Odumosu, Suleiman Yusuf Tegina and Helen
Nwafor. The suspects were charged alongside Yus Investment Nigeria
Limited and Olivia Osmond Nigeria Limited for allegedly diverting the
sum of N1, 301, 334, 108 belonging to the Nigeria Police Force, NPF, to
their personal use. They pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred
against them. Counsel to the defendants, O. A. Osinfowora, had applied
for bail on behalf of his clients when they were arraigned on November
7, 2018. The Judge had adjourned to Wednesday, November 20, 21 and 22,
2018 for ruling on the bail application filed by the defendants through
their counsel. However, the proceedings could not go on as
scheduled. The Judge therefore, fixed Thursday, November 22, 2018 for
ruling on the bail applications and commencement of trial but when the
matter was called, a lawyer, Ige Asemudara, announced his appearance for
all the defendants. He also prayed for an adjournment to enable him to
go through all the documents. Consequently, in her ruling, the Judge
revoked the bail earlier granted the defendants. The Judge held that "I
hereby revoke the applications for bail filed by Mr. O. A. Osinfowora.
This is due to the fact that the new counsel, Asemudara, has said that

Over 20 people have perished in a motor boat accident that occurred in
the waters of Lake Victoria in Mpatta sub-county, Mukono district,
Uganda, on Saturday. Police spokesperson Emilian Kayima said marine
police have so far rescued 40 people who were on board. "Uganda police
marine unit rescues over 40 people alive on Lake Victoria. Ten died.
Rescue mission still on." read a statement on the Twitter
handle. However some survivors said more than 22 perished in the
accident. Approximately 120 people are said to have been on the boat and
some survivors said it was overloaded although the registration list
had 104 names and it's possible that some passengers may not have
registered. According to police sources, more than 70 people are still
missing. 
In
videos and pictures posted on social media by the revelers before the
accident, several people could be seen without life jackets. According
to some survivors, the captain of the ship reportedly warned the
passengers that the boat had a mechanical fault and wanted to cancel the
cruise but the passengers insisted on the trip after it was perforated
by a tractor that pushed the boat into the deeper waters off the boat

The Anti-kidnapping Squad of the Lagos State Police Command, has smashed
a kidnapping syndicate at Agbowa, Ikorodu, leading to the arrest of
27-year-old Austine Inuesokan Ebimiyenwei, a native of Arogbo Azapa
community of Ese-Odo LGA, Ondo state and recovery of corpse of one
Festus Abama who died during exchange of fire while two escaped with
bullet wounds.The Command had on November 13th and 16th respectively,
received two separate reports from one Suleiman Eniola Ajumobi and one
Veronica Ewuru 'f ' about the kidnapping of their daughter and husband
respectively. While Suleiman Eniola Ajumobi reported that his 7-year-old
daughter was kidnapped from his house in his presence, Veronica Ewuru
stated that her husband, one DSP Patrick Ewuru, a police officer
attached to Force Headquarters annex, Obalende, was kidnapped from their
house in the night when the victim came out to check on the Power
Generating Set that suddenly stopped working.The kidnappers demanded for
ransom of twenty five million Naira (N25,000,000) from Mr Suleiman and
ten million Naira (N10,000,000 ) from the family of DSP Patrick Ewuru
but later settled for five hundred thousand Naira (N500,000) for both
families.At this point, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Edgal
Imohimi, directed operatives handling the matter to play along with the
Kidnappers in the interest of the victims who were still in captivity.
As soon as the release of the two victims was secured, the Kidnappers
hideout at Agbowa was busted and the aforementioned Kidnapper was killed
in the ensuing gun battle while Austine Inuesokan Ebimiyenwei
surrendered.The suspect confessed to the crime and victims have
identified both the deceased and Austine Inuesokan Ebimiyenwei as those
who kidnapped them. Concerted effort is being made to arrest those on
the run while the suspect already in police custody will be charged to
court.

A 25-year-old Nigerian identified as Okoye Ejike Kennedy was arrested in
Uttam Nagar, Delhi for posing as a German and allegedly duped people on
the pretext of selling second hand cars at very cheap rates. A K
Singla, additional commissioner of police (crime) on Friday, said that
one Sudhakar Manda, a resident of Mayur Vihar, wanted to buy an SUV. So
he logged on to a portal selling used cars and checked out the listings.
He was surprised to find an almost new Nissan Terrano at a throwaway
price of Rs 4.5 lakh. The ownership details were impressive too — the
car apparently belonged to a senior official of the German embassy who
was selling it as he was being repatriated. Sudhakar contacted the
“official” and paid 10% as advance to seal this lucrative deal. He was
shocked when he was turned away from the embassy on the date of
delivery. He then approached the police for help. Crime Branch arrested
Okoye in this regard. He duped several people using the same modus
operandi. His cellphone and laptop have been seized. Manda said in his
complaint that Kennedy posed as Paul Heinz. He also assured him that if
he wired 10% of the price to Kennedy’s secretary’s bank account, he
would be allowed to see the car. “The accused also sent a fake letter
through which the victim was supposed to get entry into the embassy.
Once the money was transferred, Kennedy changed his SIM card and went
underground,” DCP (crime) Bhisham Singh said. The police tracked Kennedy
down to a rented house in Uttam Nagar. He revealed during interrogation
that he came to India in November 2013 on a business visa and stayed on
even after the visa expired. To make easy money, he started cheating
people on the pretext of selling used cars, police said. He stole photos
of cars from advertisements online and created his own ads for the same
cars at cheaper prices. He would ask potential victims to wire money to
a bank account he opened in Imphal. Police suspect the involvement of a

Former Minister of State for Defence, Musiliu Obanikoro, his wife,
Morophat and sons have reportedly recovered their properties worth N500
million that were hitherto seized by the EFCC.Recall that Obanikoro is
standing trial alongside former Ekiti state governor, Ayo Fayose. He is
alleged to have received N4.7bn from the Office of the National Security
Adviser under the leadership of Col. Sambo Dasuki (retd.) in 2014.
Punch reports that about N2.2bn out of the funds was allegedly handed
over to Ayo Fayose who was then a PDP governorship candidate. The money
was allegedly released to rig the Ekiti state governorship election. It
is also alleged that N1.3bn from the money was given to the then Osun
State governorship candidate, Senator Iyiola Omisore.At the beginning of
Obanikoro's trial, the EFCC was able to secure a court order for the
seizure of some of his properties suspected to have been proceeds from
corrupt practices. The seized properties include four terrace houses
located at 44 Mamman Kotangora Crescent in the highbrow Katamkpe
Extension area of Abuja; a parcel of land in Guzape District and a
duplex at Olori Mojisola Onikoyi Avenue, Ikoyi, Lagos. The red paint
inscription, ‘EFCC, Keep Off!’ had been wiped off on the walls of the
buildings.Obanikoro, who defected to APC in November 2017, is now a
prosecuting witness and is expected to testify against Fayose in the
ongoing trial.The EFCC acting spokesperson, Tony Orilade, says he is not
aware of the houses that have been allegedly recovered but however

Nigerian Army vows to come after anyone spreading false video of Boko Haram's attack in Melete, says viral video was doctored to create fear
The Nigerian Army says the video making the rounds on social media of sodiers allegedly killed in Melete, Borno state by Boko Haram members on November 18th, was doctored.
In a statement shared on its Facebook page this evening, the Army warns that spreading fake news and videos is an offence and that anyone found guilty would be charged to court. Read the statement below
PRESS STATEMENT ON SPURIOUS DISSEMINATION OF FAKE VIDEOS PURPORTING BHT ATTACKS ON MILITARY LOCATIONS
1. The NA has continued to observe with great dismay the myriads of photos and video clips being recklessly distributed on various social media platforms by different caliber of persons. It is indeed shocking to see how these well doctored propaganda materials from enemies of the State has succeeded in creating fear and unrest in the polity. These doctored materials are obviously serving the purposes intended by the terrorists to misinform the populace, spread panic, hatred, religious intolerance and above all to undermine national security.
2. The NA wants to categorically state that the videos and images making rounds as the purported attack on Metele base are false and do not in any way portray the reality of the situation on the ground. Unfortunately, many do not know that indiscretional posts and comments from a citizen that is supposed to be solidly behind its military in these trying times could have a way of dampening the morale of the troops. However, the NA’s resolve in protecting the territorial integrity and sanctity of the Nigerian State would not be undermined by detractors or tacit supporters of the enemies of our beloved country.
3. Whilst appreciating the concerns of well-meaning Nigerians who genuinely care for the well-being of its military, the NA wants to draw the attention of its detractors to the fact that spreading of fake news is an offense and violates the provisions of Section 24(1)(a),(b) and (2)(a),(b),(c)(i),(ii) of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition & Prevention etc) Act, 2015.
4.In view of this, please note that the NA would henceforth report these infractions and file cases against individuals or groups who deliberately spread fake news that aims to undermine national security, in courts of competent jurisdictions. Equally, the NA wishes to inform the public of its iReport channels on the NA website, Android and iOS platforms via which the public can forward meaningful advice, criticism or observations that would enable the NA better serve the good people of Nigeria. President Buhari has expressed deep shock over the killing of military men in Metele village of Borno State by Boko Haram terrorists. He also gave an assurance that immediate measures are being taken to ensure that the loopholes which led to the fatalities are blocked once and for all.
In a reaction to the tragic incident on 18 November, the President said that his administration remains ever committed and focused on the security of military personnel and other citizens.
“No responsible Commander-in-Chief would rest on his oars or fold his hands to allow terrorists to endanger the lives of its military personnel and other citizens.
Our loyal forces have proved their strength over the terrorists and we are ready to give them all the needed support in terms of equipment and manpower to succeed in ending the renewed threat.
In the coming days, I am engaging the Military and Intelligence Chiefs in extensive discussions on the next steps we shall be taking” the president said.
He also noted that fighting terrorism has taken a global dimension, which necessitates international collaboration among states facing similar security challenges. President Buhari reassured Nigerians of his continued commitment to their security and of his efforts to sustain the momentum in the previous significant successes recorded against the terrorists.
He advised Nigerians against making a political capital out of national tragedy, stressing that members of the armed forces are one family who are commonly committed to the security and safety of all Nigerians.
