Our lives don't matter" Tech Her Nigeria founder narrates what's going on at the site where a building collapsed in Port Harcourt

Chioma Agwuegbo, the founder of Tech Her Nigeria has expressed concern after visiting the site where a 7-storey building collapsed and trapped people in Port Harcourt.Chioma revealed that the officials on ground aren't doing enough to see if they can rescue more trapped people. She said that of the three excavators on site, only one is in use. She also added that they haven't gotten to the ground floor yet even though 13 days have passed since the building collapsed. She tweeted:Just leaving the site where the building collapsed in PH. 13 days after and they're not yet at the ground floor yet. Only one excavator is in use. Officials on ground seem quicker to stop people from filming than getting anything done. No urgency. None. She added:There were at least three other excavators on site, but only one was in use. The pace of work I saw? Laughable. But the joke is on us. Our lives don't matter. My thoughts and prayers are with the families of the people trapped in the building.

Photos: 22-year-old man arrested in Abuja for allegedly killing his father

A 22-year-old ma,  Huzaifa Hussaini Usman has been charged by the police in Abuja for allegedly killing his own father. The deceased, Alhaji Hussaini Usman, a businessman and contractor, was allegedly strangled to death in his residence at Abdulkareem Adisa Estate, Apo, Abuja on October 28. Police investigators have reportedly concluded after over a month of investigation that the deceased’s last son, Huzaifa Hussaini Usman, was the main suspect in the murder.According to initial reports circulated on October 28, armed robbers invaded the house of the deceased and strangled him.According to a report by Daily Trust, a neighbour of the deceased was said to have explained that after the morning prayers, the people present at the mosque reportedly heard some noises coming from the deceased’s house and put a call across to him but that he didn’t answer. They were said to have finally gotten access to the house after calling the wife of the deceased.“When they entered, they saw the dead body of Alhaji in the sitting room. Those that entered said they were suspicious because they knocked on the door severally and it took a long while before it was eventually opened.Huzaifa was said to have told people that after he discovered his father had been killed and the assailants had left, he dragged the corpse to the sitting room from the compound and he went to call his mother before they went to the mosque to call for assistance. The family source said this conflicting narrative led to further questions. “Huzaifa said they went to call people from the mosque but the people from the mosque said they actually went on their own to make enquiries in the house. These are a group of people, so we believe they cannot be lying.”He added that “on Huzaifa’s body, there were scratches that looked like finger scratches. So we were suspicious and asked how he came about the scratches since he earlier said the assailants asked him to face the wall.”The source further revealed that suspicion grew when they discovered that Huzaifa did not accompany the corpse to the National Mosque despite being the only man in the house since his elder brother, Aliyu Hussain, was in Kano the night of the incident. It was gathered that the request of the police to conduct an autopsy on the corpse was rebuffed by his family members who insisted he should be buried immediately according to Islamic rites.About two weeks after the incident, Huzaifa was invited by the police and has been in detention since then.A source familiar with the police investigation said Huzaifa admitted that he gave money to someone to kill one Ismail but not his father. However, spokesman of the FCT Police Command, DSP Anjuguri Manzah, while confirming the arrest, added that investigation had been concluded and a charge has been filed against the son as the principal suspect before the High Court of the FCT.

Facebook's value plunges by $9.5b after a document leak exposed the company for being "anti-competitive"

Facebook shares has taken a sharp fall one day after documents incriminating the tech giant were leaked. As the stock markets opened today, the company's shares opened around 2.5 per cent down, wiping about $9.5billion out of the company's $379billion value.   This comes one day after a document leak which shows that Facebook used its platform to cripple rivals, aggressively pursued competitors, and leverage developers for advertising money, setting up conflicts with regulators and politicians around the globe. The leaked documents revealed that: Facebook planned to grant companies access to user data based on how much advertising they bought, and threatened to cut off access for firms paying under a certain amount.Facebook programmed its android app to see users call and text records in which it admitted was a "pretty high-risk thing to do from a PR perspective".Mr Zuckerberg said he was "sceptical" that apps with access Facebook users' data would pass data on, as then happened in the Cambridge Analytica scandal. Facebook used Onavo app it acquired to spy on users' phone usage, apparently without their knowledge, to identify competitors such as Whatsapp to buy out.Following the document leak, stock investment firm Stiefel downgraded Facebook's shares from "buy" to "hold" ahead of markets opening in New York, saying the company has made "too many adversaries" for its business to thrive.  Stiefel told CNBC:Facebook’s management team has created too many adversaries -- politicians/ regulators, tech leaders, consumers, and employees -- to not experience long-term negative ramifications on its business. One key issue is how Facebook took "aggressive positions" against rivals and denied key competitors such as Vine access to its data, which shut down shortly after. Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg personally approved a decision to block Twitter's app Vine from accessing users' Facebook friends lists. The papers leaked by British MP Damian Collins also showed that Facebook signed deals to give companies such as Netflix and AirBnB special access to user dater and spied on Android users' calls and texts.Facebook strongly denied ever selling user data and insisted it only granted these companies "short term extensions" to preserve user experience. In the midst of the fallout, Zuckerberg was forced to defend himself on Wednesday night, saying in a lengthy Facebook post that the company "never sold anyone's data".The EU is aggressively cracking down on tech monopolies and recently fined Google $5billion for breaching its competition laws. While the EU has so far been silent on the Facebook leak, regulators are certain to be aware of it and will likely investigate whether the social media giant broke any laws, Daily Mail reports. Politicians from eight world governments investigating the spread of fake news, led by British MP Damian Collins who leaked the papers, will also pile pressure on Facebook to disclose exactly how it monetises user data.   Following the document leak, on Wednesday night, a former Facebook staff described a "toxic and hostile" atmosphere at the company. One former senior employee told Buzzfeed News that workers are desperate for a change of leadership. Another said staff fear being scolded by furious bosses who are "spouting full-blown anti-media rhetoric, saying that the press is ganging up on Facebook."

'Brace for a long strike' - ASUU tells members

'Brace for a long strike' -ASUU tells membersThe President of Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Professor Biodun Ogunyemi, has urged the striking academic staff of the Nigerian public universities to be prepared for a long strike as the Federal Government is yet to show any seriousness in saving public schools from collapsing. He reiterated to #ASUU members “to be on the watch and prepare for a long drawn out struggle to salvage the University System”. Ogunyemi stated this in a Strike Bulletin No 5 sent to all members of the union and a copy of which was obtained by our correspondent. ASUU embarked on nationwide strike over unfulfilled past agreements by government and under-funding of education. Ogunyemi charged members to remain steadfast “and resolute in the face of intimidation or antics employed by government through Vice chancellors and Governing councils to undermine the ongoing struggle”. According to ASUU President, “Government is yet to change its “keep them talking” style and stance as all the meetings held so far with the Minister of Education are yet to resolve any of the demands of ASUU”. While speaking after their Zonal Meeting held at Ladoke Akintola University, ASUU chairman, University of Ibadan, Dr Deji Omole said Ibadan zone of ASUU had been fully mobilised with her members to ensure the reason for the strike got actualised. Omole noted that it was regrettable the federal government that had not put anything on the table to revitalise the comatose education sector was busy mobilizing funds and resources for re-election in 2019. He, however, appealed to parents not to mortgage the future of their children by following politicians instead of fighting for proper and adequate funding of public education.

And when you are confused because your supply line has been chopped off, you now turned around to support the same person.“That God that you called with your name to punish you if you support the person is about to go to work. The YSG chairman was returning from a game house along Festac Town when his convoy was attacked by heavily armed men led by Evans. During the attack, the YSG chairman was shot in the right arm while his driver, one Mr Peter Nweke,  was shot dead. One of his escorts, Chijoke Ngozi (female),  was also shot dead. Immediately the matter was assigned to my team, we arrested the 1st defendant (Evans), who narrated the entire operation to us. Evans told us that he was the leader and the one who led the gang to the operation. Evans mentioned the 3rd defendant (Arinze) as the informant of the operation. “He told us that Arinze had monitored the movement of the YSG chairman for four days in order to give him detailed information about his routine. Evans also named the 2nd defendant (Emeka) as his syndicate in all criminal activities while the 4th defendant ( Upong) supplied him with the weapons and firearms. When the victim came to the station, Evans knelt before him and apologized for killing his two escorts. He told him that he was sorry for their deaths and that it was a mistake.“Evans told the victim that he had no intention of killing anyone during the operation but only wanted to kidnap him and later demand for ransom. Evans begged that he was misinformed about the victim’s police escorts who were also armed.”The matter was adjourned till January 6th 2019, for the continuation of trial.
