Woman raped by her father over the course of 12 years and impregnated reveals how he bagged 12 years in jail

A South African rape survivor has narrated how her father was made to pay for raping her over the course of 12 years and impregnating her. Zizo Apleni, 24, has encouraged women to speak out against gender violence by using her story as an example. She decided to speak about her rape ordeal at the start of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence. Zizo, who authored the book "My Father Took My Innocence" said she was raped by her father between 2001 and 2013. She said she used to visit her father often and she was seven when the first incident occurred. As I was young, I didn’t know what he was doing was wrong. I only found out what he was doing after our hostel manager taught us not to have sex with our boyfriends. When I got home, I told my father what our hostel manager told us. He started threatening me and said I should never report it, because no one would believe me.Zizo obeyed her father and kept silent. It wasn't until she got pregnant in 2013 that her mother became aware of it.She recalled:I told her my father had been raping me for years. We reported it to the police and he was bust the same day.I was helped to abort the baby.In 2016, he was sentenced to 12 years in prison. My mum was very supportive.

It's unacceptable for APC to forbid aggrieved members from dragging the party to court - President Buhari

Its unacceptable for APC forbid aggrievedmembers from dragging the party to court - President BuhariPresident Buhari has stressed that if anyone is displeased with the way and manner anything has been done, and feels deprived of his/her rights, then such a person is at liberty to approach the courts for redress. The president reacted to the position of the All Progressives Congress (APC) which recently forbade members from dragging the party to court, the President said:“We can’t deliberately deny people of their rights. We agreed that party primaries should be conducted either through direct, indirect or consensus methods, and if anyone feels unjustly treated in the process, such a person can go to court. The court should always be the last resort for the dissatisfied. For the party to outlaw the court process is not acceptable to me.” The APC, in a decision ascribed to the National Working Committee (NWC) had last week threatened to punish members across the country who had dragged the party to court over various issues. According to a statement, “The Party intends to activate constitutional provisions to penalise such members as their action is capable of undermining the Party and hurt the Party’s interest.“We hereby strongly advise such members to withdraw all court cases, while approaching the appropriate party organs with a view to resolving any outstanding disputes. In addition to this, aggrieved members are urged to take full advantage of the reconciliation committees the Party has put in place.APC members should understand that as a progressive party that operates on the principle of change, it is not a matter of choice to keep to the rules.” President Buhari also advised members to work with the reconciliation committees empanelled for the six geo-political zones by the APC, and not a purported Presidential Committee on Reconciliation, stressing that the Party is the only body authorised to constitute such committees.

We did not receive N10 million donation from Governor Ganduje - EFCC

We did not receive N10 million donation from Governor Ganduje - EFCCThe Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has reacted to a trending story on social media concerning a purported statement credited to the media aide of the Kano State governor to the effect that the Commission got a N10 Million donation from the state government. EFCC says, 'the story is not falsehood, but a deliberate attempt to malign the efforts of the Commission in the fight against corruption. For the records, it is a tradition that the EFCC does not receive donations from state governors/government or any individual at that'. The EFCC, as a reputable anti-graft agency is sponsored by federal government through budgetary allocation and in some cases, foreign organisations in terms of capacity building. It is true that the Commission, in collaboration with the Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Crimes, ICPC and the Athletic Federation of Nigeria, AFN and other stakeholders is organizing the first National Anti-Corruption Marathon.Jacob Onu, the leader of the National Anti-Corruption Marathon had in the course of his visit to the Commission a fortnight ago told the Acting Chairman and his management about the marathon which he said is being planned in tandem with the International Anti-Corruption Day which usually comes up on December 9 every year.He said it was aimed at raising national consciousness on the scourge and danger of corruption to the country and the need for all and sundry to join hands to eradicate it.It is therefore very shocking to read of a purported donation of N10 million to the Commission. The story is not only unfounded but very mischievous. For the avoidance of doubt, no State governor or some other individual or group has donated any amount of money to the EFCC to carry out the Anti-corruption Marathon project or any other project for that matter.

SMEDA deputy director, Tunde Osho arraigned for N700m fraud (Photo)On Monday, November 26, 2018, EFCC arraigned Babatunde Osho, before Justice Nnamdi Dimgba of the Federal High Court, sitting in Maitama, Abuja, on a 41-count charge, bordering on forgery, fraudulent acquisition of properties and money laundering to the tune of N700 million. Osho was arraigned alongside Midset Agro Services Limited, Just Fair Investment Limited, and Tufik Associates, companies he is signatories to. The defendant's journey to the dock, started when the Commission received an intelligence report that Osho, a Deputy Director, Account and Finance, in Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency, SMEDA, allegedly diverted the said money, meant for constituency projects and awarded same to his personal companies. Further investigations into the matter revealed that no contracts were executed. Also, during interrogation, he was asked why the money was diverted into his account and Osho, who equally owns a Primary and Secondary School, Royal Field Academy in Ogun State, made available forged documents to mislead the Commission into believing that the contract was actually awarded to his companies. One of the counts reads: "That you Babatunde Osho and Just Fair Investment Limited between April 2017 and May 2018 in Abuja within the jurisdiction of this honourable court, used the total sum of N120,700,000 (One Hundred And Twenty Million, Seven Hundred Thousand Naira) when you ought to have known that the said N120,700,000 paid into the FCMB Account No. 4342993012 represents proceeds of unlawful activity of Babatunde Osho to wit: Forgery and Fraudulent Acquisition of Property and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 15 (2) (d) of the Money Laundering Prohibition Act 2011 as amended by Act No. 1 of 2012 and punishable under Section 15 (3) of the same Act".He pleaded not guilty to all the counts. In view of his plea, the prosecution counsel, E. E. Iheanacho, prayed the court for a trial date and for the defendant to be remanded in prison custody.

Excitement as Lagos wins 5th Lafarge Africa National Literacy Competition

Excitement as Lagos wins 5th Lafarge Africa National Literacy CompetitionAfter countless hours of rigorous coaching, scores of intra-school contests, six regional championships and one grande finale, the joy of Kehinde Lawal and Idowu Ayomikun representing Lagos State could hardly be contained after they emerged winners of the 2018 Lafarge Africa National Literacy Competition. They know they are closer to achieving their dreams in future. Ayomikun wants to become a psychotherapist while Lawal wants to become a playwright like the special guest, Prof. Wole Soyinka. “I was intimidated with the knowledge of fellow contestants when I saw them for the first time, but as the competition progressed, I got more confident,” Ayomikun said. “Now this victory has brought me closer to my dream and I am sure I can achieve whatever I focus my mind on.”  For Lawal, it is a story of resilience and determination. “Last year, I contested in the school level, but I could not qualify,” he explained. “This year, I came in with more determination and experience and it resulted in this victory. I thank Lafarge Africa for this opportunity and I urge all other kids to keep trying their best. It will definitely be rewarded just like mine has been rewarded now.” Parents and teachers of the winners were also excited. They recounted the winners’ efforts during preparation for the two-month long competition. For Mr. Osho, one of Lawal's teachers present at the event, it was an estatic moment. “These pupils have made me proud. I am the happiest person in the world with this victory,” the teacher said. The organisers of the event and special guests shared the joys of the moment.  Presenting prizes to the winners, the Chief Executive Officer, Lafarge Africa, Michel Puchercos applauded all the participants acknowledging all the students who participated at every stage of the competition. He said: “Apart from the cash prizes received, those who take part in this competition go away with skills indispensable for building a sustainable future. We recognize the importance of better literacy skills in helping individuals succeed in life. The Lafarge Africa National Literacy Competition builds capacity and contributes to developing this much needed skill in public primary school students across Nigeria. “Seeing states like Gombe, Nasarawa among some others here, I am sure that the battle against illiteracy… can be won,” Wole Soyinka said.Though only two out of the thousands of pupils who competed emerged as winners, all who took part benefited from the competition. As part of the preparation for the competition, all the students are coached in spelling, pronunciation, essay and summary writing. In this way, overall, the competition builds capacity, and contributes to improving literacy of pupils in public primary schools. More photos below...

Drama as HHP's baby mama dies weeks after his death and his wife is being blamed by social media users

There's been a development in the family of the late South African Hip Hop legend, Jabulani Tsambo aka HHP, and this is one of the hottest news out of South Africa.HHP's baby mama Lerato Khanye, who has a 13-year-old son with the rapper, died in the early hours of yesterday Nov 26 at a Johannesburg hospital. The exact circumstances surrounding Lerato Khanye's death are not clear but social media users are dragging HHP's wife in the wake of the death. HHP and Lerato Khanye HHP, who committed suicide on October 24, 2018, was married to publicist Lerato Sengadi, whom he loved crazily, according to reports. He also had a son named Leano with his former partner Lerato Khanye.  It so happens that after HHP committed suicide last month and was buried, there was a bit of a misunderstanding as to who has a right to his estate. HHP and Sengadi Wife Sengadi with the help of the courts and the police established that she's the lawful wife and as a result, has a right to the late rapper's estate. This didn't go down well with HHP's family and there's been tension between them since. Sengadi Earlier this month, a family spokesperson, Nkululeko Ncane, took to Twitter to claim that HHP’s teenage son has been kicked out of the late rapper’s home in Randpark Ridge by Sengadi. Ncane shared photos of his belongings outside.  In the midst of the family drama, Lerato Khanye died. And social media users are now dragging Lerato Sengadi without proof.

Armed robbers allegedly steal babies at University of Calabar Teaching Hospital

Dare devil armed robbers who attacked the premises of the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital, have been accused of stealing three new born babies from the pediatric ward of the hospital. According to Punch. the robbers who were about 10 in number, invaded the premises on Sunday night, November 25th and carried out their attack, with no mask on. They reportedly moved from bed to bed to pick up babies. They beat up the hospital staff and also attacked pregnant women in the pediatric ward. They also stole phones and cash from people in the ward.A nurse in the hospital who spoke on condition of anonymity, said“Sunday night, several armed robbers gained access to this (paediatric) unit. They came with guns and machetes. They beat up my colleagues and some nursing mothers. They took away some babies and money from the patients and nursing mothers. The security in this hospital has been very porous. Lives of patients, nurses and doctors are at risk. There is nowhere in this hospital that is safe. There is so much stealing going on. Visitors are no longer controlled. People troop into the wards without any check. Many, including thieves, come in the guise of being patients’ relatives. Hospital properties are stolen frequently, while electricity supply is a big challenge in the hospital, because the diesel and generator parts are stolen frequently by the workers and armed robbers.”The nurses said security in the hospital has been porous for months as the private security firm employed by the Hospital management, had withdrawn their services over non-payment of salaries. When contacted, the Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Prof. Thomas Agan, denied that the incident happened in the hospital. The Cross River State Commissioner of Police, Hafiz Inuwa, said he could not speak on the incident because he was out of Calabar.A 24-year-old man, Godwin Banchir, who beat his 65-years-old mother to death for not responding to his greetings, was, yesterday sentenced to death by hanging by Plateau High Court, sitting in Jos.Read more at: https://ift.tt/2SgkQun 24-year-old man, Godwin Banchir, who beat his 65-years-old mother to death for not responding to his greetings, was, yesterday sentenced to death by hanging by Plateau High Court, sitting in Jos.
