Trader Monis Nationwide Impact is Real

A few months ago the Federal Government launched a social intervention programme targeted at improving the lives and businesses of two million petty traders and artisans in Nigeria.TraderMoni has directly impacted over one million beneficiaries in the last few months. Since the official launch in Lagos back in August, TraderMoni has successfully reached the 36 states of the Federation and the Federal Capital. In simplest terms, TraderMoni offers interest free loans to petty traders and artisans ranging from N10,000 to N100,000 depending on successful and timely repayment and does not require any collateral. The loan facility is not a political persuasion or vote buying tool as some people presumed. This is clearly seen in the absence of PVCs or any other politically inclined document as criteria for the loan.  The success of TraderMoni is measured most accurately by the stories and positive feedback from these beneficiaries. It has been a journey of creating impact, and improving existing small and medium scale enterprises. TraderMoni is tackling the challenge of paucity of funds in MSMEs across Nigeria leading to a widespread strengthening of the economy at the base of the financial pyramid.  Visit www.tradermoni.ng for more information on the Trader Moni scheme. Loya Milk Swim Meet: Swimming to fame and fortune

Like the proverbial mustard seed, the Loya Milk Secondary School Swimming Competition, which started in 2016 with 10 schools, is growing bigger and better. The event sponsored by Loya Milk, a premium brand of Promasidor Nigeria Limited was a fascinating experience with amazing performances by school swimmers that kept coaches and spectators spell bound at all the host venues.  The third edition of the Loya Milk Secondary School Swimming Competition, was recently held in Ibadan, Port Harcourt, Abuja and Lagos, drawing admiration from both private and public-sector representatives. The kids, who represented 40 elite schools in all, had fun, tested their fitness levels and they were rewarded with premium prizes, courtesy of Loya Milk. Participating schools had both male and female students slugging it out for a total of 72 medals and cash prizes. The competition was also an ‘invitation’ to host schools – Lifeforte International School (Ibadan), Bloombreed High School (Port Harcourt), American International School (Abuja) and Children’s International School (Lagos) – to showcase their state-of-the-art swimming facilities.  Beneath the glitz of the Loya Milk Swim Meet, as the competition is fondly called, the experience turned out to be scouting ground of sort for the Nigeria Aquatics Federation. Perhaps, this was never envisaged from the inception. It turns out to be another amazing ‘perk’ for being a Loya Milk Swim Meet contestant. Yes, the Secretary General of the Federation, Sani Mohammed, who graced the Abuja event, said he had discovered some young boys and girls who are good enough to represent the country in future international competitions. The names, he disclosed, would be filled at the Ministry of Youths and Sports Development for necessary follow-up and nurturing. According to the Marketing Manager of Promasidor Nigeria Limited, Mr. Abiodun Ayodeji, Loya Milk and swimming connect naturally, hence the sponsorship. “Loya Milk provides the essential nutrients required for a 360-degree sport like swimming,” Ayodeji said, adding that the brand nourishes human system and enhances fitness.  Loya Milk Swim Meet started in Lagos two years ago with 10 schools and has increased in scope and reach ever since.InstaGram:@Loya_milkTwitter: @LoyapremiumFacebook:@Loyamilk.

President of gay dating app Grindr slammed for saying he believes marriage is 'a holy matrimony between a man and woman'

President of gay dating app Grindr slammed for saying he believes marriage is 'a holy matrimony between a man and woman'Scott Chen, the president of gay dating app, Grindr, has been slammed by the gay community for saying he agrees that 'marriage is a holy matrimony between a man and woman.' The father of two who has a wife made the remarks Monday in a now-deleted Facebook post.Screenshot of the controversial post was shared by Grindr's news vertical INTO.  The site reports that the California-based CTO had shared an article on Facebook about HTC president and CEO Cher Wang supporting anti-LGBTQ causes through two nonprofit organizations and her attempt to influence Taiwan's same-sex marriage decision. Responding to this, Chen shared his views including criticizing Wang for funding organizations against gay marriage. He also revealed that he would be boycotting any of her smartphones and accessories from her Taiwan-based company for a lifetime. 'There are people who believe that marriage is a holy matrimony between a man and a woman. I agree but that's none of our business,' Chen wrote in Chinese, which was translated by an independent translator for INTO. 'There are also people who believe that the purpose of marriage is to create children that carry their DNA. That's also none of our business. There are people that are simply different from you, who desperately want to get married. They have their own reasons,' he added He continued by taking a jab at HTC's Wang: 'Getting married is a personal thing, rich can't donate to the real poor hungry war disaster that needs help? Why spend money to stop people in love from getting married? Is nothing important in life?''Right, I won't buy HTC Products for a lifetime, and I won't donate any money to Taiwan's Christian groups for a lifetime!' INTO's Editor-in-Chief Zach Stafford wrote on Twitter Thursday: 'Today we at INTO have learned that the current president of Grindr believes that same-sex marriage is a ''holy matrimony between men and women.''' 'We are reporting this as the media property owned by Grindr and will be updating this as the story develops,' he wrote. Chen later dismissed INTO's article, calling it 'unbalanced and misleading,' in a comment directed to staff writer Matthew Rodriguez. 'Matthew, I wish you asked my comments before you publish this. This article is unbalanced and misleading. It hurts my feelings and it also hurts INTO's and Grindr's reputation,' Chen replied.   'The reason I said marriage is a holy matrimony between a man and a woman is based on my own personal experience. I am a straight man married to a woman I love and I have two beautiful daughters I love from the marriage. This is how I feel about my marriage,' he explained. The father of two who later deleted the controversial post after his 60-year-old conservative aunt got involved in the 'heated discussion' added: 'I am a huge advocate for LGBTQ+ rights since I was young. I support gay marriage and I am proud that I can work for Grindr,' he concluded.

DJ Khaled and Floyd Mayweather charged by US SEC for Illegally promoting Bitcoin

DJ Khaled andFloyd Mayweather charged by SEC for Illegally promoting BitcoinBoxer Floyd Mayweather Jr and music producer DJ Khaled will pay thousands of dollars to settle charges that they violated US financial laws.   The US Securities and Exchange Commission announced the settlement on Thursday as the US financial regulator said the men failed to disclose payments they received to promote certain cryptocurrency investments.   The men neither admitted nor denied the claims, but agreed to pay combined penalties totalling more than $750,000. The two cases are the first the SEC has brought over touting violations involving initial coin offerings or ICOs, a relatively new investment vehicle associated with crypto-currencies. An ICO allows people to invest in a company by buying "tokens" or "coins" that it issues.   Despite the new language, the SEC has warned investors that it views many of the offerings as investments governed by existing securities laws. Those rules require disclosure of payments in exchange for publicity.  In this case, the SEC said Mayweather received $300,000 to promote three separate offerings, including one by Centra Tech, a Miami company that the SEC accused of fraud in April. Mayweather's promotions included a message to his Twitter followers that Centra's ICO "starts in a few hours. Get yours before they sell out, I got mine…" Khaled was paid $50,000 by the same company, the SEC said. The SEC said DJ Khaled agreed to repay the $50,000 he received for the endorsement, as well as a $100,000 fine and interest while Mayweather will repay the $300,000 he received, as well as a $300,000 fine and interest.   SEC Enforcement Division Co-Director Steven Peikin said the cases were a reminder that investors should "be sceptical of investment advice posted to social media platforms, and should not make decisions based on celebrity endorsements".

FG freezes bank accounts of suspects on ˜looters list

The bank accounts of suspects being tried in court over allegations of corruption by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and whose names appear on the looters list released by the Federal government earlier this year, have been allegedly frozen on the orders of the Federal government. This is according to a report by TheCable. The embargo placed on the accounts is part of the implementation of the Executive Order No. 6 on the “preservation of suspicious assets connected with corruption and other relevant offences” signed by President Buhari in October 2018.A former Minister who confirmed this development, said he tried to withdraw money from his account recently but couldn't.“I issued a cheque of N250,000 to a friend and it was turned down. When I called my account officer, he invited me for a meeting, where I was told there is a ‘post no debit’ instruction on all my accounts because of the executive order. They told me I am not the only one affected. All persons undergoing trial are affected.” a former Minister whose name is on the looters list told TheCableRecall that on Tuesday November 27th, former PDP spokesperson, Olisa Metuh, told a court in Abuja that he has not been able to access his account as the EFCC has placed an embargo on it. Metuh is among the list of Nigerians  on the looters list.On March 30th, Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed, released the looters list following a challenge from Kola Ologbondiyan, spokesman of the PDP.“The PDP has challenged us to name the looters under their watch. They said they did not loot the treasury. Well, I am sure they know that the treasury was looted dry under their watch. Yet they decided to grandstand. This shows the hollowness of their apology. This list is just a tip of the iceberg, and the PDP is aware of this. We did not make these cases up. Many of these cases are in court and the records are available.” Lai Mohammed had said shortly after releasing the listAmong those listed were Sambo Dasuki, former national security adviser; Dieziani Alison-Madukwe, former minister of petroleum resources; Kenneth Minimah, former chief of army staff; Alex Badeh, former chief of defence staff; Inde Dikko, former comptroller-general of customs; and  Bala Mohammed, former minister of the federal capital territory (FCT).Others are Stella Oduah, a serving senator; Babangida Aliyu, former Niger State governor; Jonah Jang, former Plateau governor; Nenadi Usman, former minister of finance; Bashir Yuguda, former minister of state for finance; Femi Fani-Kayode, former minister of aviation; Raymond Dokpesi, founder of DAAR Communications and Uche Secondus, national chairman of the PDP.

From improved driver screenings to a share your ETA function, we’re watching out for you on every ride!   Here’s a snapshot of seven practical tips to make the best out of your Taxify ride: Stay safe before your driver arrivesStay inside the building or in a safe location until your driver arrives, especially at night. Hanging around on the side of the road with a cellphone in your hand or your valuables at sight can be a risk. Remember, you’ll be notified when your driver arrives, so it’s reasonable to wait inside until then. 2. Double check the driver’s identity When you are paired with a driver, you can see your driver’s photo, name, current rating, vehicle plate and model on your app. Be sure to cross check the vehicle in front of you against the one on the driver’s profile. If anything doesn’t add up, do not get in and make a report to Taxify via the in-app support tab.3. Confirm your payment methodUsing Taxify, you can choose between cash and card payments. Not to be taken by surprise at any point, make sure you select the preferred payment option before requesting a ride. For example, you shouldn’t pay in cash on a card trip. The payment options can be found from the top left corner, under your profile. You can also see your chosen payment method below your ride price estimate throughout your journey.4. Keep your loved ones updatedWith safety in mind, we have a Share My ETA function that appears on the bottom of the app, right under your driver’s profile. You can share your current trip details with trusted friends and family members during every ride. This makes it easier for loved ones to keep track of your journey and know when you’ve arrived.5. Forgotten item(s)Always do a quick scan of your seat and surroundings before exiting the vehicle. Remember, your property is your responsibility. Check that you do not leave any belongings behind at the end of your trip. If you do, here is how you get your items back.6. Help others have a great rideYou can help your driver better serve other riders like yourself by ensuring that you leave your Taxify clean for the next user. Remember, your driver has only one vehicle and you would like other passengers to have an experience as great as you did. 7. Let us knowValuing the feedback of our customers is not just a buzzword for us. Your opinion helps us improve the user experience for everyone on the platform. Do report any serious incidents here Rate. One of the ways we receive your feedback is through ratings after each ride. Remember to always rate your driver- as this helps us assess our service quality.Report. You can easily send a report via the support platform on the app. Do this by clicking on the profile tab on the left-hand corner and scrolling to 'Ride History' and choosing the appropriate query to send or scrolling to ‘Support’ and under 'Your Conversations' starting a conversation with the team. Remember that you can also send an email to Nigeria@taxify.eu.
