Wana Udobang shares her early struggle with low self-esteem as she advises parents on how to build up their children's confidence

Radio presenter, Wana Udobang has narrated how she suffered low confidence as a result of certain experiences as a child that went on to affect her.She said she was bullied due to her weight and it made her hesitant to take on certain roles because her self-confidence was low. The absence of her parents didn't help either. She said it wasn't until she got to her 30s that she realized that confidence is everything. She went on to advise parents on how to help build their kids' self-worth using her experience. She wrote:The one realisation i had in my 30s was that confidence is everything.I am a late bloomer so bear with me. My two main sources of low confidence growing up were being fat and parental absense. I had grown up with names from obrokoto Nigerian football to Wana Opoto. As you know my people are not very tactful when they say things to children, it isn't news that you grow up believing you need fixing. The thing is you never realise how much these insecurities sip into every area of your life from managing terrible relationships because you don't think you are worth better to not taking opportunities because you see yourself as undeserving. You keep telling yourself that when you have fixed certain things, then you will apply for that gig, go to that hangout, travel, or wear the things you want or even take that full length picture.I remember a boyfriend who broke up with me siting that i was too nice and to be honest he was right because even when i was upset i acted like i wasn't because i didn't want to rock the boat. I also recall refusing to take up the television module whilst at University because i felt no one would ever hire me in front of the camera. It all sounds odd and sad but those are the things that can happen and even worse like abuse, loosing your voice and getting comfortable with being invisible. Then finally complete self erasure.I think that not everyone is lucky enough to come from a place that nurtures confidence and so you just have to find it and fight to keep it. Challenge yourself to keep doing new things however deep, however frivolous, it is a way for you to connect with yourself one inch at a time.PS If you are a parent to a chubby kid, just get them involved in active play from dance to martial arts. If you think they aren't eating the right things, adjust the whole family diet not just theirs. Please don't pass on your insecurities as inheriatance. If you can raise your children to be confident and self reliant, you have done a pretty good job.If you are reading this, supertall, thin, fat, short, darkskinned and everything else inbetween, just know that you do not need fixing.#mirrorselfiechronicles #selflove #meditations

Five Reasons We Are In Love With Kano Right Now

Kano is a  gorgeous place, you have heard all the stories - the splendour of the Tiga Dam; the colours of the Dying Pits; the beauty of the Falgore Game Reserve or the bustle of the Kurmi market. Yes, we have heard all the gist, yet none of the beauties listed above is at the top of things we love about Kano right now? Now you’re wondering, what on earth is it? Okay, let’s give you the gist. Earlier this year, we headed for the ancient city of Ibadan in Oyo State for the pilot phase of MTN Foundation’s ICT and Business Skills Training and then we moved on to Kano on Wednesday, 8th 2018 and Thursday, 9th 2018. Let’s just tell you now,  Kano’s edition took the training another step further. We haven’t stopped thinking about it.  Here are the five reasons we love about the training in Kano and why we are excited for the next one!  1.     Strictly Experts: For two (2) days, experts from the MTN Foundations and its ecosystem partners - KPMG; IBM; DBI (Digital Bridge Institute) and Oracle came together to train youths on the necessary skills in ICT and Business. There was so much to learn and Kano was surely better for it. The participants learnt how to use the right social media skills to increase customers for business and financial accounting. 2.     The Tasks Were Fun: So, at the end of each day, the hall filled with hundreds of students was divided into tables and each recipient was able to sit and think through engaging tasks. Each team picked a leader to present their answers and at the end of the entire session, shouts of victory rung in the air when a group was crowned winner. You needed to have seen the competitive drive in the air. That's one of the things we are excited to see in the next state - people coming together to learn and enjoy every minute of it. Lest I forget, the winner team was also rewarded big time. 3.     It was Free: Yes, participants did not pay a single dime for attending the event. That was very interesting! Each day had a roughly nine-hour-long intensive session and yet there was not a fee to any of the activities. It was all paid for by MTN Foundation. 4.     Our Selfie game was on fleek! Yes, “all work and no play” was not our problem at all. The recipients with the most liked selfie on twitter got a surprise gift! See, using social media to win - we learned fast. Four lucky recipients happily received gifts from the MTN Foundation team. 5.     We had  a Mega Freebie! Okay, you have to keep this a secret - after the wrap up, each day the participants were handed envelopes to help with transportation back home. All recipients! We opened our mouths in shock when we found out. First, we got free training that would last our lives then we got to enjoy a trip back home, all expenses on MTN! We tried to beg the team not to leave, but ehn...like Santa Claus, they had to go improve other lives. You understand the sheer excitement we have for Kano, the possibilities that the young people of the state now have. After the training, the employability level in Kano has increased by the hundreds of participant present. If that isn't a reason to shout ‘whoop!” we really cannot help you...

Photo: Zamfara House of Assembly member sentenced to four years imprisonment over N31m fraud

Zamfara State High Court sitting in Gusau, has sentenced a serving member of the State’s House of Assembly, Lawali Attahiru Dogonkade, to four years imprisonment over an alleged N31 million fraud. Dogonkade who was arraigned today by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) on a four-count charge bordering on conferring corrupt advantage on himself admitted guilt before Justice Bello Shinkafi, thereby leading to his immediate conviction by the court. The convict, representing Kauran-Namoda Local Government in the Zamfara State House of Assembly, was accused of using his position to confer corrupt advantage upon himself in a N31, 290, 000 contract meant for the supply of medical equipment to the State Government in violation of Sections 10, 12 and 19 of the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act, 2000. Counsel to ICPC, Mashkur Salisu, in one of the counts told the court that the convict received N4.5 million from the Managing Director of Madaci Pharmacy, Mr. Hamisu Saminu Jibril, as percentage for the supply of medical equipment contract awarded by the state government. His counsel, Mr. Abubakar Junaidu, had earlier argued on the propriety of the charge before the court saying that the accused had been charged one time before the Federal High Court in Gusau by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). But the trial judge overruled his argument and shortly after, the convict entered into a guilty plea. Junaidu then pleaded with the court to be lenient with his client considering the fact that he was a first time offender with a large family and dependents who solely rely on him for their livelihood. Following his guilty plea, the Counsel to the Commission invited the court to convict him in line with the provisions of 274 (2) of Administration of Criminal Justice Act 2015. The court thereupon convicted the accused person as charged and sentenced him to four years imprisonment or payment of fine of N30, 000 on each of the counts totaling N120, 000.The post Photo.

Alibaba criticizes 2 soldiers for riding on the same bike without helmet

Veteran comedian, Alibaba took a photo of two soldiers rising on the same bike without helmets and he criticized them for it.He wrote:Like I said before, until our constitution is sorted out, we are not in a democracy. Can this happen in countries where laws are obeyed? To ride a bike, you must wear helmets. And you can not carry 2 people. And don get me wrong, I am a barracks boy, my Dad served this country for 18years as a commissioned officer. Whenever he sees what military men do these days, he says, we have lost it. Don't come here and talk of supreme sacrifice that they make. We appreciate that, always. But no one is bigger than our constitution

This coin will turn your life around for good even if you missed out on bitcoin-we will give you one free. Try it out

This coin will turn your life around for good even if you missed out on bitcoin-we will give you one free. Try it out. This is a sponsored post...Another golden opportunity is here, the most important thing to us at this difficult moment, is money. So if there is a way or an opportunity to make enough of it and keep for the raining days, then we should do it.It will actually cost you nothing to put 100 dollars aside on some coins that you think you might not need and allow it grow for some months, then go back to it and see what has become of it.You can as well invest 200 dollars, out of which 100 dollars to buy coins for keeps and another 100 dollars to buy coins for reselling, which you can resell after a few days as the price keeps increasing. As at today a coin cost 0.59 dollars but just a week ago same coin sold for 0.45 dollars and about two weeks ago sold for 0.20 dollars, do not be surprised if the price increases to 1 dollar tomorrow because we are growing.TODAY BEING BLACK FRDAY YOU GET 1 ADDITIONAL COIN FOR EVERY COIN YOU BUY BELOW 200 DOLLARS WORTH AND YOU GET 2 ADDITIONAL COINS FOR EVERY COIN YOU BUY ABOVE 200 DOLLARS WORTH.This is an initial coin offering (ICO) you can go online and read about ico, then you will be glad you came across this piece of information that will change your financial life for good. Do not for any reason be left out of information’s like this. In the past there have been a lot of scams but will you allow yesterday prevent you from seeing tomorrow? I doubt you want thatInvest now at https://ift.tt/2OWTY0z this piece of information with friends and family, it might just be what they need, you don’t always have to give them money.A short testimonyMy name is Portia and I came across this information through a friend, I then invested 300 dollars each to buy coins for my 3 kids, as at when I bought, it was being sold at 0.023 per coin and today I see it is being sold at 0.59 per coin, in just a space of 1 month I have already made money, I actually did not believe what I read until I introduced a friend and sold some coins to her and she paid me directly while her coins were credited to her account. I must tell you the truth, it’s the first time I see a crypto currency platform anywhere in the world that you can sell coins to your friends, family or anyone during ICO stage, this is incredible and it gives us hope for tomorrow. I have in the past invested in so many coins and some are useless to me till date, if they had this option then we will not complain, I am writing this because I have already bought based on the black Friday offer and I got the extras, just want to say thank you .

Photos: Lt. Col Ibrahim Sakaba identified as one of the 44 soldiers reportedly killed by Boko Haram terrorists

Lt. Col Ibrahim Sakaba is one of the 44 soldiers reportedly killed by Boko Haram insurgents during an attack on 157 Task Force Battalion in Metele, Guzamala Local Government Area of Borno State on Monday evening. The rampaging insurgents overran the Army battalion, killing the unit’s commander and dozens of soldiers. Military sources claimed that large cache of arms, ammunition, and military equipment were carted away by Boko Haram fighters during the attack.    Below is a post by former classmate of the slain soldier:  Just a few days ago, I made a post tagging my Oga Lt. Col Ibrahim Sakaba , reminiscing our days in NDA and how I eluded him and some of my other seniors those days in Burma Battalion, NDA.Early this morning, I woke up to the post that Oga Sakaba had been murdered as the commander of his unit by Boko Haram among 44 soldiers killed in a gory attack! I am still in shock!Just a few weeks ago, I received the news of the killing of my aburo, Late Capt.Sola Michael Akingbesote ... who too was fallen by Boko Haram in an attack on the Nigerian Army.I have lost count of friends, former colleagues and my Ogas that had been fallen by these tag-rag terrorists— and it is so surreal! Here alone, on Facebook, I could tag not less than 10 army officers that I know PERSONALLY and these terrorists have murdered in various attacks. Now, I will not politicize issues that pertain to lives especially of people known to me, and I will not politicize issues that pertain to the Nigerian Army/Armed Forces— an institution I hold sacrosanct despite not being a supporter of their C-in-C, but I pray that this menace of Boko Haram will be dealt with IN SINCERITY!Enough of the government playing to the gallery— and telling Nigerians that Boko Haram has been completely defeated... because things are GETTING WORSE!I pray for members of our Armed Forces who toil day and night to keep us safe.I pray for the members of families of those killed in these attacks. Most importantly, I pray these senseless killings in Nigeria are all put to stop.I pray the peace of God reigns supreme in our land.ADIEU MY OGA. So sad!

British mum of 9 who abandoned her husband for her young Gambian boyfriend converts to Islam so she can marry him

A British mum-of-nine who dumped her husband of 23 years for a young Gambian man she met online has converted to Islam so they can get married. Heidi Hepworth, 45, now wears a hijab and prays to Allah every day as she prepares for her wedding with her taxi driver boyfriend, Mamadou Salieu Jallow, 31. Heidi said she proposed to her Gambian boyfriend and he accepted. They are planning to have the wedding in a mosque in Gambia, a nation that is predominantly Muslim and which Heidi says is "a happier and more caring place than Britain".  She plans to move there after they marry next year once her divorce is finalised.Speaking on her relationship with Mamadou and their coming nuptials, she said:No-one imagined this would last but we love each other and are making plans to marry. I’ve never been happier.Speaking of the proposal, Heidi said:I think it’s fine to take the initiative.I have wasted enough time in my life in an unhappy marriage.  Heidi split with her husband of 23 years last year and began dating Mamadou. She even left her kids at home in Britain and went to Gambia to be with him. People figured it was a phase that would pass soon, but they were wrong. At the time, Heidi's husband Andy, 45, said: "It’s a mid-life crisis. She’s been brainwashed." Heidi's ex-husband, Andy Andy also criticised Heidi for leaving her kids, saying: A caring mum wouldn’t go off gallivanting around Africa with her new boyfriend. But Heidi defended her actions, telling The Sun last year:I don’t have a single regret. I’m not a terrible parent. It was really hard for me to leave my kids, but they couldn’t come with me so I had no choice.I was shocked at the anger that was directed at me for supposedly abandoning my children. That just didn’t happen.Heidi has two sons and a daughter aged 25 to 30 from a previous relationship. She and Andy have three daughters aged 7, 10, and 24 and three sons aged 12, 18 and 19. Heidi revealed that when she left, her eldest daughter moved into her house to stay with the three youngest children so that their life wasn't disrupted greatly.
