Excitement as Lagos wins 5th Lafarge Africa National Literacy Competition

Excitement as Lagos wins 5th Lafarge Africa National Literacy CompetitionAfter countless hours of rigorous coaching, scores of intra-school contests, six regional championships and one grande finale, the joy of Kehinde Lawal and Idowu Ayomikun representing Lagos State could hardly be contained after they emerged winners of the 2018 Lafarge Africa National Literacy Competition. They know they are closer to achieving their dreams in future. Ayomikun wants to become a psychotherapist while Lawal wants to become a playwright like the special guest, Prof. Wole Soyinka. “I was intimidated with the knowledge of fellow contestants when I saw them for the first time, but as the competition progressed, I got more confident,” Ayomikun said. “Now this victory has brought me closer to my dream and I am sure I can achieve whatever I focus my mind on.”  For Lawal, it is a story of resilience and determination. “Last year, I contested in the school level, but I could not qualify,” he explained. “This year, I came in with more determination and experience and it resulted in this victory. I thank Lafarge Africa for this opportunity and I urge all other kids to keep trying their best. It will definitely be rewarded just like mine has been rewarded now.” Parents and teachers of the winners were also excited. They recounted the winners’ efforts during preparation for the two-month long competition. For Mr. Osho, one of Lawal's teachers present at the event, it was an estatic moment. “These pupils have made me proud. I am the happiest person in the world with this victory,” the teacher said. The organisers of the event and special guests shared the joys of the moment.  Presenting prizes to the winners, the Chief Executive Officer, Lafarge Africa, Michel Puchercos applauded all the participants acknowledging all the students who participated at every stage of the competition. He said: “Apart from the cash prizes received, those who take part in this competition go away with skills indispensable for building a sustainable future. We recognize the importance of better literacy skills in helping individuals succeed in life. The Lafarge Africa National Literacy Competition builds capacity and contributes to developing this much needed skill in public primary school students across Nigeria. “Seeing states like Gombe, Nasarawa among some others here, I am sure that the battle against illiteracy… can be won,” Wole Soyinka said.Though only two out of the thousands of pupils who competed emerged as winners, all who took part benefited from the competition. As part of the preparation for the competition, all the students are coached in spelling, pronunciation, essay and summary writing. In this way, overall, the competition builds capacity, and contributes to improving literacy of pupils in public primary schools. More photos below...

Drama as HHP's baby mama dies weeks after his death and his wife is being blamed by social media users

There's been a development in the family of the late South African Hip Hop legend, Jabulani Tsambo aka HHP, and this is one of the hottest news out of South Africa.HHP's baby mama Lerato Khanye, who has a 13-year-old son with the rapper, died in the early hours of yesterday Nov 26 at a Johannesburg hospital. The exact circumstances surrounding Lerato Khanye's death are not clear but social media users are dragging HHP's wife in the wake of the death. HHP and Lerato Khanye HHP, who committed suicide on October 24, 2018, was married to publicist Lerato Sengadi, whom he loved crazily, according to reports. He also had a son named Leano with his former partner Lerato Khanye.  It so happens that after HHP committed suicide last month and was buried, there was a bit of a misunderstanding as to who has a right to his estate. HHP and Sengadi Wife Sengadi with the help of the courts and the police established that she's the lawful wife and as a result, has a right to the late rapper's estate. This didn't go down well with HHP's family and there's been tension between them since. Sengadi Earlier this month, a family spokesperson, Nkululeko Ncane, took to Twitter to claim that HHP’s teenage son has been kicked out of the late rapper’s home in Randpark Ridge by Sengadi. Ncane shared photos of his belongings outside.  In the midst of the family drama, Lerato Khanye died. And social media users are now dragging Lerato Sengadi without proof.

Armed robbers allegedly steal babies at University of Calabar Teaching Hospital

Dare devil armed robbers who attacked the premises of the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital, have been accused of stealing three new born babies from the pediatric ward of the hospital. According to Punch. the robbers who were about 10 in number, invaded the premises on Sunday night, November 25th and carried out their attack, with no mask on. They reportedly moved from bed to bed to pick up babies. They beat up the hospital staff and also attacked pregnant women in the pediatric ward. They also stole phones and cash from people in the ward.A nurse in the hospital who spoke on condition of anonymity, said“Sunday night, several armed robbers gained access to this (paediatric) unit. They came with guns and machetes. They beat up my colleagues and some nursing mothers. They took away some babies and money from the patients and nursing mothers. The security in this hospital has been very porous. Lives of patients, nurses and doctors are at risk. There is nowhere in this hospital that is safe. There is so much stealing going on. Visitors are no longer controlled. People troop into the wards without any check. Many, including thieves, come in the guise of being patients’ relatives. Hospital properties are stolen frequently, while electricity supply is a big challenge in the hospital, because the diesel and generator parts are stolen frequently by the workers and armed robbers.”The nurses said security in the hospital has been porous for months as the private security firm employed by the Hospital management, had withdrawn their services over non-payment of salaries. When contacted, the Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Prof. Thomas Agan, denied that the incident happened in the hospital. The Cross River State Commissioner of Police, Hafiz Inuwa, said he could not speak on the incident because he was out of Calabar.A 24-year-old man, Godwin Banchir, who beat his 65-years-old mother to death for not responding to his greetings, was, yesterday sentenced to death by hanging by Plateau High Court, sitting in Jos.Read more at: https://ift.tt/2SgkQun 24-year-old man, Godwin Banchir, who beat his 65-years-old mother to death for not responding to his greetings, was, yesterday sentenced to death by hanging by Plateau High Court, sitting in Jos. Popular OAP & Hypeman, Oladotun Kayode aka 'The Energy gAD' releases new images

Popular OAP & Hypeman Oladotun Kayode aka The Energy gAD releases new imagesDotun has successfully carved out a niche within a diverse entertainment industry. The intent of the shoot was to showcase and story-tell Dotun’s many presenting-styles as Alter-egos through fashion. Starting with the good, the corporate smooth look, followed by the bad, with the attire showing an affinity for martial arts and space travel. Finally the energy, with the use of fire and illumination. All these showcase his daring character to be different. This is the evolution of the Energy gAD. The Evolution of HypeDotun observed in his hosting career, a lack of ‘parties with life’ and the Nigerian notion of ‘sit and be seen’ or ‘just be there’. He saw an opportunity to carve out a niche. He saw in his own personality a catalyst and portal to bring the energy to the party-space, by creating an Alter-ego that channelled his God-given energy and control. Not only has Dotun been able to master the skill of crowd-control, he has tapped into our reciprocal human energy to be controlled in the euphoria of a crowd. This very powerful mix has been the success behind this now established brand.Like Sàngó, the Ife god who was the 4th king that ruled as the Alaafin of Oyo. Sango was known to have controlled Thunder. ‘f èdùn kó lè b’ ebè isu’ , meaning the one who uses the thunderbolt to till the earth into heaps like those for planting yams. This powerful simile and constant improvement of Dotun’s brand means the genre of Hype is here to stay. Where, in previous times, on stage, the Hypeman’s role was to support the music Artist, Dotun has shown through precedence that he can be the forefront, even without the Artist. He ensures the event/party has the influence and energy required. This is Oladotun Kayode, this is the Energy gAD.  About Oladotun KayodeOladotun Ojuolape Kayode (Born April 8, 1984) is a Nigerian On-Air Personality, Video Jockey, Event Host/Master of Ceremonies, Hypeman, Actor and Media Entrepreneur, popularly known as Do2dTun (Pronounced D-O-To-The-T-U-N).After pioneering a dance group called Xtreme dancers while in the University and featuring in na- tionwide viral music videos like D’banj’s Why Me and Same Ni by Dj Zeez, Dotun came to wider prominence as one of the best TV/Radio Personality the African continent has ever seen endearing himself to fans as host of shows like Soundcity’s greatest countdown on earth and some of the biggest concerts on the continent and beyond. Scope of Services• Radio Presenter• Master of Ceremonies • Hypeman• Creative Director• Actor  For media requests:Nwosu Somto +234 902 861 9845 bookings@therealenergygad.com ecleftic.entertainment@gmail.comImages available onlinehttps://bit.ly/2qV12RD https://ift.tt/2FJYK2i :The Editorial Shoot was shot by exclaimed Photographer Emmanuel Oyeleke and styled by equally re-nowned Fashion-stylist Jane Michael Ekanem.Photography / ConceptEmmanuel Oyeleke @emmanueloyelekeFashion & StylingJane Micheal Ekanam @janemmichaelekanemCreative Director/MuseOladotun Kayode @do2dtun @therealenergygadCreative Director/Story BoardTosin Oshinowo @tosin.oshinowo
