Armed robbers allegedly steal babies at University of Calabar Teaching Hospital
Dare devil armed robbers who attacked the premises of the University of
Calabar Teaching Hospital, have been accused of stealing three new born
babies from the pediatric ward of the hospital. According to Punch. the
robbers who were about 10 in number, invaded the premises on Sunday
night, November 25th and carried out their attack, with no mask on. They
reportedly moved from bed to bed to pick up babies. They beat up the
hospital staff and also attacked pregnant women in the pediatric ward.
They also stole phones and cash from people in the ward.A nurse in the
hospital who spoke on condition of anonymity, said“Sunday night, several
armed robbers gained access to this (paediatric) unit. They came with
guns and machetes. They beat up my colleagues and some nursing mothers.
They took away some babies and money from the patients and nursing
mothers. The security in this hospital has been very porous. Lives of
patients, nurses and doctors are at risk. There is nowhere in this
hospital that is safe. There is so much stealing going on. Visitors are
no longer controlled. People troop into the wards without any check.
Many, including thieves, come in the guise of being patients’ relatives.
Hospital properties are stolen frequently, while electricity supply is a
big challenge in the hospital, because the diesel and generator parts
are stolen frequently by the workers and armed robbers.”The nurses said
security in the hospital has been porous for months as the private
security firm employed by the Hospital management, had withdrawn their
services over non-payment of salaries. When contacted, the Chief Medical
Director of the hospital, Prof. Thomas Agan, denied that the incident
happened in the hospital. The Cross River State Commissioner of Police,
Hafiz Inuwa, said he could not speak on the incident because he was out

found Banchir guilty of killing his biological mother. Delivering the
judgment, Longji said: “Going by the findings of this court, you Godwin
Banchir, mercilessly took the life of your mother, Mrs Saratu Banchir,
in cold blood. “This sentence is mandatory, as the law states that any
person convicted of murder shall be punished with death by hanging. “The
sentence of this court upon you is that you, Godwin Banchir, will be

It was gathered that the convict was first arraigned on June 6, 2016,
charged with culpable homicide, contrary to Section 221 of the Penal
Code punishable with death upon conviction. The convict was said to have
committed the crime on Jan. 21, 2016, when he used a stick to beat his
mother to death. Banchir in his confessional statement said that he
returned from the farm on the said date and found his mother sitting in
the compound and when he greeted her, she ignored him. He said that
infuriated him and he picked a stick and hit her. In his words: “I got
angry when she did not respond to my greetings, so I picked the stick of
an axe and hit her around her ribs. “She fell down and started
shouting, which attracted our neighbours who came to beat me up and
later took me to the police station. “I have been having
misunderstandings with my mother each time I return from the farm, she
doesn’t cook for me on time, and she always quarrels with me whenever I
want to bathe with the water she fetched from the stream. “Her actions
always annoyed me, I did not know that she was going to die from the
beating she received from me.”Read more at: https://ift.tt/2SgkQun

Dr D.K Olukoya, the General overseer of the Mountain of Fire and
Miracles Ministries, is known for his unquestionable love for music, and
this has seen him commit resources, time and energy to the discovery,
development and refining of musical talents, thereby, enabling such
talents to attain world class standard.A man who has created such an
inspiring environment by being a mentor, has also made unreserved
financial commitments, by providing such talents with opportunities for
further development through music studies. Interestingly, he himself is
also a musician, who has several musical compositions to his name as
well as a massive collection of negro spiritual songs. This love and
passion for great music led to his unreserved support for the ‘Shalom
Chorale’ - a gospel choir group in MFM United Kingdom.Dr D.K Olukoya’s
commitment was rewarded this beautiful Sunday 25th November 2018, when
the Shalom Chorale brought home glory to the gospel genre, and the
Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries church at large, as they
emerged winners of the BBC Songs of Praise Gospel Choir of The Year 2018
competition in the United Kingdom. This competition is highly
recognised not just in the UK, but in the world wide gospel music
scene. The annual event organized by the British Broadcasting Commission
(BBC) Songs of Praise, had several choirs from around Great Britain
enter in, but only 5 were selected as finalists, but only one could
emerge as the winner. And that position was awarded to the Shalom
Chorale during the final episode on 25th November which was aired on BBC
One.
The
Shalom Chorale is a group of singers with passion for music and faith
in God. In times like these, when news of violence and rumours of war
seem to dominate the world, they feel there is a need for peace, hence
their name ‘Shalom Chorale’.Their members come from different geographic
regions in the UK, with the majority based in London, and others in
Milton Keynes, Leeds and even Durham! They are a bunch of talented
individuals who cherish singing to the glory of God, whenever and
wherever they can. Simply put, as they described, their mission is to
share the message of peace and love through godly music. They expressed
how blessed they feel to enjoy the unlimited support of the MFM church
community and its founder (General Overseer of the Mountain of Fire and
Miracles Ministries church) Dr D.K. Olukoya who has been a source of
blessing, mentorship and immense support to them.Their passion, efforts
and breath-taking performances didn’t go unnoticed, as they got the
world’s attention and were selected to compete as one of the top 5
choirs for the BBC Songs of Praise Gospel Choir of the Year 2018
competition in the United Kingdom. At the first stage of the finals, the
delectable choir sang to the amazement of the audience who couldn’t
help but give a standing ovation to that effect, the judges:
award-winning choir director Gareth Malone, gospel choir leader Karen
Gibson and actor and singer Shaun Escoffery, were not left out as they
gushed over the choir. The choir then proceeded to the final stage of
the competition, where they were announced winners!Dr D.K Olukoya
expressed his utmost joy, seeing how God has rewarded his labour of
love, sacrifice and commitment to the growth of Christian music in
Nigeria and around the world.
