Cross River journalists escape death in kidnap-robbery attack
“I woke up this I morning in Calabar to find out that flight ticket to Lagos from Calabar was 68k. I was angry with Air Peace and decided to put one of our cars on the road and hit Lagos. I called Jonathan Ugbal to come drive. We had a smooth journey until we got to Imo state and things changed.“About 3pm. A Toyota Highlander SUV that was speeding after us appeared by the passenger side and there were three guys inside. Two flashed AK47 rifles at us and commanded us to stop or they shoot. Jonathan Ugbal was driving. I encouraged him not to stop.“Don’t stop! I screamed. Reverse and let’s run. Jonathan reversed successfully and we zoomed. And the worst happened. Fulani herdsmen were carrying their herd around and the cows strayed into the express. I told Jonathan to run into them. He did. One cow died and one of our front tire busted.“The impact of the car hitting the cows also forced the bonnet of the car open and blocked the windscreen and we couldn’t see our way again, with one front tire down, the vehicle lost control and began to swerve. The bandits kept shooting at our vehicle from behind and the bullets pierced several holes behind the car but we both lowered our heads and kept pushing.“The straying cows became a blessing. The cows stopped the bandits’ vehicle from the pursuit while our car was still swerving until it hit a tree and got damaged. We both jumped down and ran into a very thick forest. The bandits came down, ran after us on foot kept firing indiscriminately while we were in the forest.“We spent over an hour in the forest and came out. The man through whose compound we ran into the bush showed us where his ceiling was riddled with bullets and how the bandits forcibly broke all his room doors asking him to bring us out so they can take us away but couldn’t find us. They also shot two cows dead possibly for blocking their pursuit. They also ransacked our car and stole our laptops, bag of clothes, Jonathan’s phone and other things. When we emerged, the Fulani herdsmen now started round two. They insisted we must pay for their dead cows. A good Samaritan took us into hiding in his house after we managed to stealthily remove my phone which had fell into my shoe. (I managed to find my own phone because it fell into my shoe which I had removed while we were driving. The phone miraculously fell into my shoe and the bandits didn’t see it.)“I then put a call across to the Cross River state Police Commissioner, CP Hafiz Inuwa, who promptly called the Imo CP. Some cops from federal SARS were sent down. When they arrived we emerged from hiding and the police rescued us from the herdsmen and took us to Okigwe SARS office. Another team was also sent to tow our car and the car is now safely parked at the SARS office in Okigwe.“While in SARS office, the commander got a call that the same three man gang driving the same car had kidnapped one Eze and killed another man who was driving a Lexus jeep. They went to pick the body while we were still writing our statements. The police congratulated us for escaping being kidnapped.“The residents of Amadik also told us how they run like they did today, sometimes up to five times a day, because of the way kidnappers way-lay people on the road and cause them to run into their community in panic. As I type, our bodies are riddled with bruises we sustained from fighting with the elements in the thick forest. We are as dirty as mechanics and our clothes were all stolen so we can’t even change.“We want to thank the commissioners of police in Cross River and Imo States for their prompt response. But most importantly. I want to specially thank God for continually proving to be God in this our journey. This is the second time in 3 months we are escaping death.“God won’t leave us alone. God knows we are struggling hard to further the course of mankind and contribute our quota to the development of our State, Nigeria and humanity. We are confident that the grace of God will continually abide with us without ceasing and our mission will be achieved before we share the grace from this world.”Mr. Archibong Jeremiah confirmed that “the Police in Imo had recovered the Highlander Jeep and some belongings of the CrossRiverWatch Publisher and News Editor and they are on the trail of the alleged kidnappers/robbers.”
How can you take me home and sleep off" Lady blasts men who do not take advantage of a woman in their bed (video)
A woman is trending on social media after she released a video blasting men who take women home and end up sleeping off without having sex with them.
She also criticized those men who will doze off after just one round of sex and give the excuse that they have to be at work the following day.
She added that no man will do that to her without her ensuring that he wakes up to finish what he has started.
Some social media users have blasted her for her comment and told her that a woman coming to a man's house doesn't equate to consent to have sex. Others have criticised her for putting so much pressure on men to perform. However, she's being praised by some people.

Father stabs his two daughters to death after luring them into the house with mangoes
A father stabbed his two daughters to death yesterday by luring them into the house with mangoes.
Mr James Maina, 30, met his daughters playing outside their home in Mishomoroni, Mombasa county, Kenya, while their mother wasn't around and he asked them to come in and eat mangoes.
The girls, aged six and four, followed their father into their one-room home and he grabbed a knife and stabbed them. One was stabbed in the chest and the other had her neck slashed.
Rather than call for help, the father, who was reportedly drunk at the time, sat on a keg near where his bleeding daughters lay.
It wasn't until a neighbour named Ms Lina Righa, who feeds the girls in the absence of their mother, called for them for lunch and they didn't respond, that it was discovered something was amiss. Ms Lina sent her child to check on them but the child returned to tell her that the door was locked.
She narrated:
The children usually eat lunch at my house when their mother is not around but when I called them, neither responded. I sent my child to look for them. She told me their door was locked. As Ms Righa prepared to go and find out where the children were, their mother, a businesswoman, returned home.
Ms Lina continued:
I went with her and knocked on the door. The children’s father did not respond, so we broke down the door. We found him sitting on a jerrican. He said he had killed the children.Ms Righa, who is the couple’s landlady, said Mr Maina had spent the whole day indoors drinking.
The couple has been living here for four months and the woman has been having problems because of her husband’s drinking. She is the one who has been struggling to feed the family.
Mr Maina’s father, Mr Charles Kimani, acknowledged that his son has had a drinking problem for years, adding that it has been causing problems in his eight-year marriage.
Mombasa Police Commander Johnston Ipara said that Mr Maina was arrested and is being held at the Nyali Police Station.
Nigerian President Buhari denies death and body double rumours
Rumours that he had been replaced with a body double called "Jubril" from Sudan had been widely shared online.
The 75-year-old Mr Buhari, who is seeking re-election in February next year, has been beset by ill health since taking office in 2015.
He was on "medical leave" in the UK for three months in 2017.
He revealed after his return to Nigeria that "I have never been so sick", but did not disclose what he was suffering from. He insists he is now in good health.
According to an AFP Fact Check investigation. Posts promoting the rumours have been viewed more than 500,000 times.
A former aide to Mr Buhari's predecessor, Goodluck Jonathan, is among the high profile individuals who have promoted the rumours.
'Ignorant and irreligious'
Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of secessionist group Indigenous People of Biafra (Ipob), has also been fuelling the rumours, AFP found. In one instance, Mr Kanu shared two images of Mr Buhari, one reversed, to allege that the Nigerian leader, who is right-handed, was using his left hand - "proving" that that meant he was a body double.
Mr Buhari, who is in Poland attending a UN climate change conference, was asked about the rumours during a meeting on Sunday with Nigerians in the country.
His personal assistant shared a video of his answer:
''A lot of people hoped that I died during my ill health. Some even reached out to the vice-president to consider them to be his deputy because they assumed I was dead.
"That embarrassed him a lot and of course, he visited me when I was in London convalescing… It's [the] real me; I assure you,'' Mr Buhari added.
A former vice-president, Atiku Abubakar, 72, has emerged as Mr Buhari's main challenger in next year's election.
The opposition is expected to make the president's health a major campaign issue, but Mr Buhari said: "I'm still going strong."
Many Nigerians are surprised that President Buhari chose to respond to the extraordinary claim that he has a body double called "Jubril".
The claim has been an online joke for months, generally dismissed as fake news, and largely ignored by many reputable media organisations.
It has, however, been used by Mr Buhari's detractors to call into question the state of his health.
Contrary to the expectations of the president's aides, his statement that he is "not a clone" may lead to greater focus on his health as he prepares for a gruelling election campaign.
